The subject Dentistry for Special Patients deals with the field of dentistry that cares for patients with medical and pharmacological conditions and involves specific and differentiated treatment from the dentist to the treatment provided for other patients. The subject also covers scenarios resulting from caring for uncooperative patients, those with psychological or physical disorders that require intervention, and specific means and procedures.

General objectives
A. To provide the student with the knowledge, skills and aptitudes required for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of anomalies and diseases of patients with medical complications and physical and medical disorders.
B. To train the student in the scientific method applied to the study, evaluation and solution of the dental health problems of patients with medical complications and physical and medical disorders.
C. To train the student towards eventual specialisation, research or teaching.
Intermediate goals
1. To acquire the necessary skills and attitudes for the clinical exploration of patients with medical and pharmacological conditions and physical and medical disorders. To obtain and assess clinical, radiographic and complementary data of the aforementioned patient and undertake a diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic approach to the patient’s dental health condition.
2. To distinguish the characteristics of the diagnosis and therapeutic approach in personalised dental care for disabled patients and patients with medical conditions.
3. To identify and describe the etiological and risk agents of oral diseases in patients with medical complications and/or physical and medical disorders.
4. To train students to perform the main treatment methods and techniques, and in the control and prevention of oral diseases collectively for the target patients.
5. To master the individual and community educational techniques for disabled patients or those with a medical condition.
6. To train the student to describe the oral health condition and the dental treatment needs of the different groups of the aforementioned patients.
7. To know and describe the different groups of disabled patients pursuant to their capabilities, their degree of dependency, their social environment and their place of residence.
8. To know the different public health programmes designed for the dental care of this group.
9.To train the student for the management of conscious sedation techniques orally and by inhalation with nitrous oxide

Master classes:Themes with computer-based support shall be posted prior to lectures on the Intranet.
Practical seminars:Attendance shall be mandatory.Attendance shall be recorded.Only two JUSTIFIED absences are permitted.Clinical case studies shall be debated in a participatory manner.
Introduction:Students, in groups of five, must prepare a communication that will be submitted along with the corresponding report to the Spanish Gerontology Society Congress or Special Patients Congress, or to another event chosen along similar lines.In the final seminars, the summary or abstract of the communication shall be presented and explained to the group.
At the beginning of the course, a list of topics and tutors-lecturers in the field shall be provided, and these tutors shall follow the progress of the work.
Students will attend CAPs and / or a external institution for 20 hours throughout the academic year to complete their training, conducting external internships supervised by dentists practicing in primary or a teacher, following an organization that will be published on the web at the beginning of the course
MASTER CLASSES: The exam will consist of 40 test questions and 5 answers correct one. Subtracted 0.20 points for every wrong answer.
PRACTICAL SEMINARS: The exam will consist of 10 multiple choice questions and 5 answers correct one. Subtracted 0.20 points for every wrong answer. Only you can examine this part who has attended at seminars with a maximum of 2 faults JUSTIFIED
REVIEW is 60% of the grade
The evaluation of communications is 10% of the grade
