Introduction

Oral surgery cases and dental implant surgical cases will be done in the University Dental Clinic at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya always under the supervision of IMOS faculty.

Pre-course requirements

Students are asked to perform surgical cases in relation to his surgical skills and degree of knowledge according to the degree of difficulty of every cases.

Objectives

Expose the students to different clinical situations according to their surgical skills and knowledge Open their minds regarding interaction with patients from varied surgical situations.

Attend more experienced postgraduate students to understand and learn what can be done in different scenarios.

Competences / Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Awareness and dominance of all surgical scenarios.

Gradually move from assistance to surgical cases to direct management of them.

Skills in all surgical procedures to allow different exits for a given problem.

Be able after the third year to potentially solve most oral surgical procedures.

Manage complications in an expedite and orderly manner.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Residents should be able to:

Manage any case of dentoalveolar surgery.

Manage any case of dental implant surgery.

Be able to differentially diagnose oral medical problems.

Develop arguing and debating skills when it comes to defend a specific treatment plan.

Have deep radiological knowledge of different imaging techniques (CBCT, MR, Orto)

Be able to connect and cooperate with other Dental University Departments to offer a multidisciplinary approach.

Syllabus

All IMOS students must keep in touch with the Dental Clinic patients and solve the surgical situations under the supervision of the IMOS faculty.

The postgraduate students must do the complete postsurgical follow-up of every case.

Teaching and learning activities

In person

Students must present at the premises 15 min in advance of the scheduled time respecting and assuming the surgical rules in the surgical area.

The postgraduate students will be responsible of every case assigned by the supervisor.

The clinical instructor will sign the LogBook after completion by the student.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

All students will be under continued evaluation based on: number of cases treated as assistants or surgeons, diagnostic and management skills, evidence based treatment plans, punctuality and behavior towards patients and to the staff members.

They record in a LogBook of all surgical interventions performed as surgeons or assistants during all the program. This LogBook will be used both for final evaluation and for accreditation at the European Board of oral Surgery.
