Pre-course requirements

Students enrolled must:

- Have completed all first and second year subjects either from the periodontal residency or from the oral surgery residency.

- Have basic knowledge on both theoric and clinical aspects of implantology.

- Have mastered scientifical english

Objectives

Provide further current knowledge on periodontology and implant dentistry, learn on new surgical techniques, and develop critical thinking on the analysis of recently published scientific literature.

Competences / Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Students have to read previously selected articles on current techniques in implantology and complete presentations during the seminar.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Students will not only learn on the most up to date techniques related to implant dentistry but also develop creitical thinking when evaluating scientific articles.

Syllabus

Scientific articles are selected from the journals of greatest impact on immediate implants, survival and success rate of implants, peri-implantitis, mucogingival therapy around implants, short implants and ridge preservation.

Teaching and learning activities

In person

During each seminar, students are asked to present each article during 10-15 minutes. A group discussion on the article follows. Each topic block is evaluated independently with an exam.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

Exams on each topic account for 70% of the final evaluation. The 30% left is evaluated depending on the quality of presentation, the clas participation and the assistance.

Each exam contains ten questions to be responded with a short answer. At least 70% of the exam has to be correct to pass it.
