Introduction

In this matter will develop the activity assistencial own clinic of a professional oral rehabilitation in the field of the aesthetic and the oral functionality. The program of formation the will endow to achieve the technical and surgical skills that a professional of the odontology  aesthetic has to possess. It will demand a level of anamnesis, of oral exploration and of complementary explorations of advanced and multidisciplinary character; and it will recommend the realisation of some minimum treatments that will distribute along the four semesters of the *màster undergraduate in Odontology *Restauradora Aesthetic. These treatments will have a character advanced treating of oral rehabilitations where the multidisciplinary factor have an importance highlighted (since prosthesis *removibles until prosthesis *implantosoportades, going through the adhesive rehabilitations *dentosoportades and the prostheses maxilo-facial between other procedures). In this matter the student also will learn, by means of theoretical classes, the diagnostic and *maneig of the oral parafuncions and the trastorns of the articulation temporo-mandibular and of the masticatories muscles ; and, by means of practical classes, the procedures for the preparation of splints oclusals and for the realisation of test of *hipermovilitat articular.

Pre-course requirements

Buco-dental anatomy.  Knowledge of oral diseases pathophysiology.  Surgical technique relative to dental prosthetics and dental surgery treatment

Objectives

Competences / Learning outcomes of the degree programme

  • CE1 - Students should be able to undertake a proper analysis and an extraoral diagnosis, and underline the aesthetic and functional aspects of the teeth and the soft areas of the lower part of the face as well as a analysis and clinical and lab-based diagnosis, using diagnostic and therapeutic wax models, in order to rehabilitate dental occlusion with good functional and aesthetic balance, while taking into account multidisciplinary factors related to the masticating apparatus.
  • CE2 - Students should be able to work as a clinical professional and/or researcher in the field of aesthetic restorative dentistry, and act as a real specialist or expert in the material; as well as know how to diagnose, treat, prevent and research oral disorders and have updated knowledge of the diagnostic and treatment-related advances which continue to arise throughout their professional life.
  • CE3 - To undertake the selective drilling of teeth to balance the jaw and dental occlusion, as well as make splints for articular and occlusal protection in cases where there is a pathology that requires this.
  • CE4 - To acquire the ability to make oral preparations on mucosa, teeth, and dental implants, to build dental prostheses in patients with advanced oral and multidisciplinary disorders; as well as identify and undertake the procedures and various checks for the prosthetic components during construction.
  • CG1 - To have the ability to communicate with patients with the aim of explaining, based on scientific criteria but in accessible language, their diagnosis, treatment plan and prognosis, in the case of pathologies that tend to be either advanced or multidisciplinary in nature.
  • CG2 - To be autonomous in terms of obtaining a patient's anamnesis and oral explorations in patients with pathologies that might be either advanced or multidisciplinary in nature; and fill in their medical record and other clinical paperwork using scientific language and terminology that is suited to an aesthetic restorative dentistry professional.
  • CG3 - To know how to apply the protocols established in the University Dental Clinic in relation to diagnosis, complementary explorations and treatment for patients, as well as treatment plans, taking into account the fact that the patients being addressed have pathologies that are either advanced or multidisciplinary in nature.

Learning outcomes of the subject

-The student must be able to correctly use scientific terminology related to disfunction and aesthetic restorative dentistry, conducting a proper analysis and diagnosis of the lower third of the face, highlighting the aesthetic and functional aspects of a patient's teeth and soft parts of the mouth in this analysis. As well as how to perform a proper intraoral examination and diagnosis of the masticatory apparatus.

-Students are able to identify and reproduce the macro and micro aesthetics of the teeth as well as the hard and soft tissues of the mouth.

-The student speaks with patients in order to explain, with a scientific criterion and an affordable language, the diagnosis, the treatment plan and your prognosis, with regard to the scientific evidence. This "rehabilitator/patient" relationship allows the latter to choose between the different prostheses options and the more reliable prognosis.

-The student performs oral preparations on teeth, implants or oral tissue (cut, impressions, structures tests, occlusal examination ...) to make oral prosthesis in patients with advanced oral disorders and multidisciplinary professional environment.

-The students have a clear understanding and advanced concepts such as, dental implant osseointegration, passive adaptation, torque, implant connection, type of surface, variety of prosthetic pilars, types of impressions, transfer of occlusal and aesthetic parameters, ... Also they are able to choose, individually for each patient, the most appropriate implant as well as doing the different tests and do all the testing as well as choosing the different implanthological aditments  during the process of preparation of the oral prostheses. That way they achieve control on the process at any time in order to meet functional and aesthetic scored goals set at the start of the treatment.

-The student places prosthesis (removable, fixed on teeth, on implants, on teeth and implants and maxilo-facial) in the patient mouth. They also teach them to take care of the prosthesis, an are in charge of the follow up of the patient and  monitoring the adaptation of the patient to the new prostheses, and modifying it if necessary in each specific case.

-The student has scientific knowledge to choose the type of material of which will be made the patient's rehabilitation.

-The student is able to perform analyses and clinical and laboratory diagnoses of occlusion, dental and mandibular dynamics, diagnostic and therapeutic models of waxed plaster from the mouths of patients, to get their dental occlusion and acheaving the balance between aesthetics, joint and oclusal functions, considering multidisciplinary factors of the masticatory apparatus.

-The student carries out selective cut of the teeth to achieve dynamic balance and mandibular dental occlusion.

-The student carries out joint protection and oclusal splints.

Syllabus

The contents of the course are the treatments of clinical multidisciplanary cases.

These cases are a continuation of the treatments done in the first year with new cases of high complexity. The cases are performed in combination with the different Master programs:  implants, orthodontics, and endodontics mainly.
