Presentació

Entertainment is a fast growing format on TV. The globalisation of TV products has helped innovative TV entertainment programmes to grow quickly and expanded around the globe. However, TV entertainment includes a very broad variety of programmes, from quiz games to reality shows. This module looks into the different entertainment programmes and later concentrates on late night talk shows and day talk shows.

During this module, we will explore different TV genres currently aired in the United Kingdom. However, the main focus for this week will be to produce a TV Entertainment programme.

Objectius

On completion of this module, students will:

  • Have a general understanding of the different TV entertainment programmes.
  • Be able to produce a programme’s bible, running order and camera plan for a TV entertainment product.
  • Be able to identify the crew’s and technical requirements to produce a TV entertainment programme.
  • Be able to split responsibilities to work quickly and more efficiently.
  • Be able to assign and undertake specific roles inside a production team.
  • Be able to carry out the preproduction and filming for a TV entertainment programme.

Introductory session (Thursday, May 2nd from 12h to 14h)

  • Reviewing basic concepts:
    • Genre and format
    • Late night / Day-time talk show
    • The programme's bible (paper format)
    • Running order (or outline)

Workshop: Day 1 (Monday, May 6th from 9h to 14h)

  • Workshop introduction

Workshop: Day 2 (Tuesday, May 7th from 9h to 14h)

  • Programme’s bible
  • Running order (content)

Workshop: Day 3 (Wednesday, May 8th from 9h to 14h)

  • Day 3 will be for the groups to work on the programme's script and to plan the set design/props and costume required.
  • The groups should also decide the production's technical needs to be requested to the relevant person in studio.

Focused praxis: Lliurament periòdic i individual d'exercicis per aprendre la teoria a través de la pràctica. Cada exercici anirà destinat a adquirir coneixements molt definits i adaptats a la persona concreta així com a esmenar llacunes particulars. seminaris: aquesta activitat que consistirà a aprofundir monogràficament en temàtiques específiques, d'especial actualitat –en alguns casos, socialment debatudes–, mitjançant treball actiu en grups reduïts.

Workshops: tallers avançats, intensius, de major durada, dirigits per professors i/o professionals estrangers, en els quals l'idioma utilitzat és l'anglès. Culminen en un producte professional o semiprofessional produït també en llengua anglesa.

The seminar will be assessed for the group’s work carried out. Thus, the mark will be assigned as a group.

Production documents (bible, running order, camera script, crew and technical requirements): 30%

Final product (Late night talk show or day time talk show): 70%

Second assessment (June 2019):

If any students fail to complete the final product successfully, or if they do not comply with the workshop’s attendance policy, they will have to present a written project. The details of this second assessment will be discussed individually with lecturer Roser Canela.
