Introduction

Digital Design is a subject of 3 ECTS credits that is taught during the first semester of the second degree of Advertising and Public Relations.

Design is the visual language in which advertising is expressed, having knowledge about its principles and syntax becomes essential when focusing on a career in advertising. This subject aims to consolidate this knowledge through the use of Photoshop software as a compositing tool in the design and digital development of the advertising message.

No prerequisites required.

Objectives

Acquire basic knowledge on the fundamentals of design.

Learn the tools of the Photoshop program to be able to create, edit and compose professional images.

- To have a basic criterion of the use of the aesthetic principles of graphic design.

- Develop a graphic project in Photoshop.

3. Design Basics:
- Formal elements of the image
- Principles of composition

4. Aesthetic design principles:
- Balance
- Unity

5. Working with sections:
- About selection and selection tools
- Select with the magic wand tool
- Working with geometric selections
- Select with the Lasso tool
- Crop an image and delete within a selection

6. Basic photography corrections:
- Strategies for retouching photos
- Resolution and image size
- Straighten and retouch an image
- Use automatic adjustments
- Adjust the tonal range
- Remove the color dye
- Replace colors in an image
- Compare manual results with automatic

7. Retouch and repair:
- Repair areas with the Clone Buffer tool
- Use the Brush Tool and Patch
- Remove Imperfections
- About snapshots and the History palette

8. Masks and channels:
- Working with masks and channels
- Edit a mask
- Load a mask as selection and apply adjustment
- Create a Gradient Mask

9. Masks, paths and vector shapes:

Teaching and learning activities

TRAINING ACTIVITYECTS CREDITS
Lectures. In lectures, lecturers/professors not only transmit content or knowledge, but also, and above all else, attitudes, motivation, skills and values, etc. They also ensure that participants can express their opinions and arguments to the other students.

Seminar. This activity will consist of taking an in-depth look at specific up-to-date topics in a monographic manner-in some cases these topics will have been debated socially-, via active work in small groups.

Workshop. Advanced and intensive workshops of a longer duration, led by lecturers and/or foreign professionals, in which the language used is English. These culminate in the creation of a professional or semi-professional product which is also produced in English.

Coaching. Monitoring how students learn the content of the subject, either individually or in groups. In the coaching sessions, mistakes will be corrected, queries answered, and exercises and activities to achieve the established objectives will be suggested.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

This is a continuous assessment, which will use multi-evaluation. The students' work will be assessed according to their involvement in the subject, participation in class, resolution of the objectives, fulfillment of the deadlines and creativity in the design. The academic norms of the Faculty will be applied.
Practical exercises with a weighting of 40% of the final grade of the subject. Total: 40%
Final project with a weighting of 50% of the final grade of the subject. Total: 50%
Generic competences a weighting of 10% of the final grade of the subject. Total: 10%
