Introduction

The internationalization of the firms is a big driver of the globalization of the economies. The academic field called International Business (IB) studies the internationalization proceses of firms activity.

Basic notions in International Business is essential in the training for future managers.

Pre-course requirements

The subject is taught in CATALAN language. At the same time, the student should be able to read and to understand English texts.

Objectives

-To introduce students to the discipline of International Business (IB), academic field with increasing importance to explain and to understanding the process of globalization of economies and companies.

-To introduce and to understand the key concepts of IB.

-Knowing how to relate appropriately Strategy and Management concepts within an international context.

-Learn to work with business-specific material in English.

Competences / Learning outcomes of the degree programme

  • 07 - To be familiar with the basic features of the Spanish economy, both in terms of structure and economic policies.
  • 08 - To understand how leading world economies work, their institutions and interconnections.
  • 09 - To identify emerging economies as well as the underdeveloped world, and to analyse applied growth policies.

Teaching and learning activities

In person

The objectives of the course will be presented by three ways: teacher's explanations, student presentations, and discussions of cases and short texts in the classroom.

Therefore, the learning activities include:

-Lectures.

-Oral presentation of students.

-Individual readings.

-Individual analysis and discussion of cases.

-Discussion of specific texts.

-Comments of the students.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

L'avaluació es realitzarà a partir de tres elements:

a) Participació a les classes: 50%. Inclou: 1: Les intervencions personals valorades a partir de l'escala: A (bona); B (adequada); C (pobre); D (inexistent). Té un pés del 50% de la participació. 2: Les entregues dels mini-casos i d'altres activitats; exposicions orals, o qualsevol altre activitat: té un pes del 50% de la participació.

Adicionalment, 'actitud durant les classes es té en compte: aquesta pondera multiplicant per "1" la nota de la Participació en les classes, si l'actitud és adequada; o bé multiplicant per "0" la nota de la Participació en les classes, si l'actitud és dolenta/negativa/inadequada.

b) Examen final: 25%.

c) Treballs personals: 25%. Inclou bàsicament l'informe-país i també la mitja dels informes de casos per treballar a casa que s'indiquin.

L'assitència a les classes és fonamental per l'aprenentatge i l'avaluació. Una assitència inferior al 75% (10 classes), justificada o no, comporta la qualificació de No Presentat a l'assignatura.

Cal aprovar per separat els tres components de l'avaluació per poder superar l'assignatura.

SEGONA CONVOCATÒRIA:

-Es manté la valoració de la nota obtinguada en l'apartat "participació a les classes", així com la resta de percentatges de l'avaluació. Haurà de repetir l'examen final. A més, cal considerar:

a) Si no s'han fet totes les entregues dels mini casos in-class, i/o dels casos llargs, caldrà fer-ne uns de nous que es proporcionaran a l'estudiant, de manera que faci la mateixa feina que la resta de companys. Llavors aquests computarien en l'apartat "participació en les classes" (els mini-casos), o Treballs personals (si fossin casos llargs).

b) Si les faltes d'assistència superen les 10 caldrà fer un treball addicional per compensar la no-assistència. La nota aniria dins de l'apartat  "participació en les classes".

c) Cal que s'entregui el Country Report, en cas de no haver-lo fet durant el curs.
