Introduction

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an English language proficiency test intended to measure the ability of candidates who want to work or study where English is spoken.

It assesses the four English skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – which are designed to reflect real life experiences in English.

The IELTS recognizes both British and American terms in spelling, grammar and word choice.  It also includes native speaker accents from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the US in the listening component part of the test.  The test is also international in its scope so contents come from a variety of English speaking countries.

IELTS results are graded on a 9-band scale.  Students on this course are expected to have a B1+ or B2 level of English in order to do the course, which corresponds to the 5 to 6.5 range on the 9 band scale.
