Introduction


Community Nursing focuses on helping the individual, family and community on the basic needs throughout the life cycle, and each of the processes of health and illness they face. A constant goal of the Community Nursing will be the prevention and promoting self-care and personal responsibility in the knowledge and promotion of health. Therefore, this course will develop the content about the foundations and main tools of health education.

This course in Community Nursing aims to deepen student professional development of Community Nursing in their areas of action and the role of nursing within the primary care team. In addition, seek to give the basis for the development and evaluation of health programs.

From the perspective of Applied Psychosocial Studies, the course aims for students to acquire basic knowledge but precise information on the personal, social and cultural human being in psychology to discover an aid in the health field and rehabilitation.

On this course will be a joint activity with the subject of LBS, in which the student will face a nursing consultation in three different scenarios with the help of a standard patient. This is a cross-training activity within an interdisciplinary teaching innovation project.

Objectives


Objectives Unit I
1. Describe the development of primary health care.
2. Show the different areas of community nursing activity, helping to understand the important role of nursing in the family and community.
3. Define the activities to develop community nursing, aimed at individual, family and community care.
4. Analyze the role of nursing within the primary care team.
5. Make known the basis for health planning.
6. Identify different health programs and explain their meaning.

Objectives Unit II
1. Providing the keys to affective communication: with patients, families and social groups, including those with communication difficulties.
2. Reflecting on the importance of rapport and social interaction that requires all health professions.
3. Provide expertise in the management and control of verbal and nonverbal factors that determine the assertive style of communication.
4. Disseminate basic communication skills.

Learning outcomes of the subject

At the end of the course of "General Community Nursing" students will be able to:
• Assess the importance of families and community groups in health treatments.
• Recognize the importance of identifying the level of health of a community.
• Describe the different functions of a community and their responsibilities in maintaining health.
• Recognize the role of the nurse within the scope of the APS.
• Understand the changes for primary care in health.
• Identify the different roles within the multidisciplinary health team
• Know and be familiar with the documents and records used in APS
• Identify the independent role of the nurse in primary care
• Understand the basic methodology of health education in order to develop intervention programs and community participation                                                                                                                                                                        • Contact the field of health monitoring and the role it plays nurse.
• Understand the social reality of the workplace.
• Analyze social aspects that influence the behavior of healthy and sick.
• Understand the psychological aspects of disease process and the importance of occupational health field in this process, which determined the relationship with the patient, family and multidisciplinary team which works.

UNIT  1. COMMUNITY NURSING
Topic 1.1. PRIMARY HEALTH CARE: historical background. Concept, characteristics and structure of Primary Health Care. Health Center. The team of Primary Health Care. The nurse in the primary care team. Records.
Topic 1.2. COMMUNITY NURSING: Professional model of Community Nursing. Fields. Nursing care to the individual, family and community. The nursing consultation. Health Education Methods
Topic 1.3. HEALTH PLANNING: Concepts, formulation of objectives, design activities, distribution of resources assessment.

Topic 1.4. NURSING PREVENTIVE: Immunizations, screening and health advice

UNIT 2. PSYCHO-SOCIAL AND APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY
Topic 2.1. Communication. Theoretical foundations, communication skills.
Topic 2.2. Communication with the health professional. Burnout syndrome.
Topic 2.3. Communication with the patient and family. The process of becoming ill.
Topic 2.4. Relationship of health care with the patient in different situations: the chronic patient, surgical patients, hospitalized patients, the patient before death.
Topic 2.5. Relationship of health care to patients according to their developmental stage. The case of children and the elderly.

Methodology and training activities Unit 1

  • The course is usually taught through theoretical sessions (lectures) and practical sessions.
  • The content of the lectures will be the development of the main themes and concepts of the subject detailed in the syllabus. As regards the practical sessions will be based primarily on the critical reading of articles, exercises to familiarize yourself with some sites of interest to the subject (virtual learning) and group tutorials to guide on the conduct of practical work .

Methodology and training activities Unit 2

  • This second part of the course is usually taught through theoretical sessions (lectures), but will encourage participation. The content of the lectures will be the development of the main themes and concepts of the subject detailed in the syllabus. Audiovisual material will be used to support and further readings on the issues.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

Final written exam: assessing the content of the two units of the subject through multiple choice questions and short questions. This test accounts for 75% of the final grade for the course. It is necessary to pass this exam to pass the subject.


Written work on unit I of the subject:
will assess the content, appropriateness of objectives, compliance with the guidelines given at the beginning of the subject, methodology, job search information, business planning, presentation and writing skills, originality and creativity. It will also take into account the assessment of individual group members.Failure to submit the same without justification amounts to a hold in practice. The score of this work accounts for 15% of the total grade of the subject.

Class participation, exercises, etc: will be the 10% of the overall grade of the subject.

 

Before registration in the course again should be looked compatibility with other subjects.

For the 3rd and 4th, will apply the same criteria as for the 1st and 2nd.
