Introduction

The nursing simulation lab, is an educational space that recreates real situations of nursing care. It is a tool that enhances learning the different techniques that all nursing students must acquire before contact with the patient and specifically with the activity of the nurse in the hospital field. The simulation lab is a space that demonstrates the health care procedures where students can develop their abilities to "know how to be", "know what to do" and "know how to act" in a health care context (especially hospitals) .
From the first course, students learn clinical nursing skills in the lab, in an environment free from the many existing stressors in the hospital world. Subsequently, the student must put these skills into practice directly with people. This practice should serve to apply knowledge, skills and attitudes from a holistic perspective of care for people.

During the third course students should acquire advanced skills and start implementing a specialized attention to the patient's care (acute situation, critical condition, surgery ...)

Pre-course requirements

To enhance learning in the nursing simulation lab, students should meet the following requirements:

  • Attendance to all lab simulation classes
  • Willingness to learn
  • Prior reading of class notes of the simulation labs
  • Motivation to perform the procedures
  • Autonomous training to acquire the minimum skills necessary in order to go to clinical practice
  • Use of the white coat in the simulation lab
  • Suitable clothing should be worn in the simulation labs (comfortable clothing, cleanliness, no heels, no nail polish and short, hair up and not wear jewelry)

Objectives

Students:

  1. Act taking into account the inherent ethical issues in the care of the patient when performing intermediate procedures
  2. Demonstrate dexterity in performing advanced procedures
  3. Complete advanced care procedures independently and applying the basic criteria learned
  4. Learn to relate the information on the patient to the appropriate advanced procedures
  5. Demonstrate reflective thoughts before starting, completing, and finishing advanced procedures.
  6. Use sustainable resources in the advanced procedures to be performed (quantity, rejection, selective and recycling, if applicable)

Students:

  • Use sustainable resources in the advanced procedures to be performed (quantity, rejection, selective and recycling, if applicable)

Teaching and learning activities

In person

The methodology followed in the nursing simulation laboratories is a teaching-learning methodology based on reflective thinking practice and participation. To do so, there are no more than 10 or 11 students in lab simulation groups. The sequence of the teaching activity has been organized according to the following structure:

  3. Presentation and discussion of the case
  4. Theoretical contribution - practice
  5. Practical training
  6. Independent practice
  7. Practice reflection

Classes are conducted according to the following activities:

The classes are always 1 hour and 50 min. long.

Evaluation systems and criteria

Items for a final mark:

  • Practical test at the end of the syllabus (70%): students will individually solve a series of problems in different real hospital situations.
  • Students must pass the exam in order to take an average with the rest of the areas/items
  • In consideration ACOES two concepts are evaluated: The procedures within the ACOES that for the second average should get a concept as minimun 5, and the second concept of critical items which must obtain minimun 5 to average with the first concept. The final exam will be the average of the two concepts. It will be mandatory attendance clinical simulation for you will do the ECOES exam
  • Professor observation during classroom work (5%):  2% observations of teacher performance in the classroom and laboratory and 3% compliance of the laboratory (use of gown, punctuality ...)
  • Nursing records or contextualization exercises of procedures taught in class (15%): clinical simulation. Will be necessary to have accepted a confidentiality order to access of cinical simulation

Assistance punishable from the 4th class descomptabilitzarà not care where a 0.5 point less than the final score. Or siguiL'assistència the LBS is compulsory and the student must have attended at least 90% of classes (in total the student has 40 hours of class and must complete a minimum of 36 h) not subtract score. The criteria applies only in the first examination taken by the student.
It will assess the dynamics ordered independent laboratories.

THE FINAL GRADE FOR THE COURSE WILL BE THE TOTAL CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT AND EXAMINATION ACOES.

- Wont't possible to recover the lost class but is a to justified.

- If there is a justifiable reason (death of a relative up to the 3rd degree of consanguinity, hospitalization of a relative up to 3rd grade consenguinitat disease when students always carry proof of medical or hospitalization students) students must contact the teacher to inform him. Only in these cases the teachers of the subject will discuss the possibility of recovering the class, but not punishable lack of absence.

  • The second meeting will be in June-July with the dynamics of the first call.
  • A second call will remain stored notes the continued avalaució.  If you have failed the intermediate test, you must pass the final test with a mark of 5. Finally, if the intermediate test hasn't been performed, you can recover only by the final test and must obtain on it a grade of 7 to pass the course.
  • In the third and fourth call not keep note of the ongoing evaluation, but is not mandatory but recommended attendance. If it is required the completion of the pre-exam lab assisting the Clinical Simulation.
  • In these convocations the student will be excluded from the rules of attendance as long as in the 1st convocation the student has a proven an attendance of an 88%, otherwise the rules will be applied (the student needs to have at least an attendance of an 88% in one convocation).

Before you register again to the subject should be looked compatibility with other subjects.
