Introduction

Professional practices in health centers include a compulsory, continuous and structured course along the four-year degree. It is the backbone of the curriculum from which the student integrates the theoretical knowledge, allowing it to generate practical knowledge useful for their future professional life.

The Initiation Practicum lasts for 6 weeks and is in the 2nd half of the first year.

Pre-course requirements

  • Updated Vaccination (according to the rules laid down in the Degree Guide)
  • Having the appropriate uniform
  • Having done the Basics of Care course
  • Having completed the necessary credits of the Basic Simulation Laboratory
  • Not be on leave for health reasons , accident or any other contingency related to health.

  3. Assessment of the child /healthy adult/the sick
  4. Guided participation in the care for the child / healthy adult / the sick in Primary Care
  5. Guided participation in the care for the child / hospitalized adult

Learning outcomes of the subject

  • Participate in the assessment and monitoring of the adult in the field of primary care and hospitalization, detecting and communicating signs and symptoms indicating impairment of health of the patient-user
  • Propose contacts with different members of the interdisciplinary team based on the problem with the patient
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the indications and undesirable effects of administered medications
  • Show respect for cultural values and beliefs of individuals and their families even though they may differ from your own
  • Apply ethical and moral principles in the nursing profession
  • Participate in the care of children and adults under the supervision of the clinical tutor, demonstrating responsibility and good work ethics in the execution of procedures
  • Share the use of health documentation responsibly
  • Formulate nursing diagnoses and identify medical and interdisciplinary problems

Evaluation systems and criteria

  • Tutoring Clinic: 25%
  • Academic tutorial: 20%
  • Reflective Journal: 50%
  • Self - Assessment: 5%

Evaluation documents, where the expected results for the student's learning are specified, are available on the Intranet, in the dossier assessment of the Practicum in the section "Teaching materials" from the Course Description of the subject. The document, which the academic tutor evaluates, will be shown in the first tutorial of the practicum.

The dossier evaluation documents of work placement have to be delivered, signed and sealed. The presentation without this requirement will mean the withdrawal of 1 point from the final practice mark.

Honor qualifications will not be awarded in any resit

Unexcused absence at the introductory session of the course will be penalized with a 0.5 point deduction in the overall mark for the course.

Justified reasons for absence (have to be recovered):

  • Disease
  • Accident
  • Death of a relative
  • Main family events such as weddings, communions, baptisms, etc.
  • Competition in federated teams of the University.

There will be no option to recover unexcused absences (work placement or tutorials).

These will be reflected in the student's mark as follows:

  • 1 DAY lowering 1 point the overall mark
  • 2 DAYS lowering 2 points the overall mark
  •  > 2 DAYS Practicum fail and retake in a second call. 

In both cases the final decision on the student's mark will be taken by the work placement evaluation board. 

The first day of work placement the student must present the internship dossier to the clinical mentor and submit the internship agreement in the assigned Health center, this is a prerequisite to star the internship.

The evaluation documents of the internship dossier must be submitted, signed and sealed. The presentation without this requirement will entail the withdrawal of 1 point of the final mark.  

LEADERSHIP PROJECT

The final grade of this subject will be affected by the non-attendance to any of the 3 leadership tutorials of each semester in the following proportion: 0.5 points if missing in the 3 occasions; 0.4 points if you miss 2 tutorials and 0.3 if you miss 1 tutorial. This rule will apply to approved students and unca will be subject to suspension of the subject.

First Class of Honors is a special mention in addition to the final mark, granting this special mention will be decided by the evaluation board of the subject, according to the merits of the student.

Students who fail a practicum in 1st call because they have not passed the portfolio, if they are in 4th course, they will not be able to process the title until the closure of records in 2nd call.
