Introduction

The complexity and sophistication of the management of higher education institutions require to achieve excellence.

 

The Master in Health Management aims to reinforce the UIC with a university education skills which the doctor or other health-related professionals, has received during his studies degree or diploma, extensive knowledge of other disciplines such as economics, sociology, law, engineering, biology, ...

 

The ultimate goal of the program is to provide theoretical and methodological tools to manage a complex and changing environment, to contribute to improving care and quality of health services.

The curriculum of this degree is designed so that it can be compatible with professional practice through intensive schedule classes two days a week.

The implementation of the practices in real environments and in different aspects, allows the student to attain a level of expertise necessary to perform additional management functions to be empowered or clinical practice managers at different levels of healthcare organizations.

Objectives

The 3 subjects of this module are designed to gradually introduce health care management from a more general, comprehensive and management theorist (macro-management), specifying in each type of organization (middle management) and down to the detail of the processes within same (micro-management). This will have an overview of all settings in which management can develop this.

 

Each subject brings together themes consistent in content and timing, going from more general at the beginning of the course: Model and Health Systems (first half), the concrete as it advances: Management of healthcare organizations (first and second half) in the broadest sense, looking at all aspects of health: prevention, acute treatment, chronic, ambulatory, mental health, addiction, rehabilitation, ... and ending with the Business Process Management (second half) working processes of a more general and have a cross-application, to other specific management, other processes support .... for different organizations. And in the last session of this module, a synthesis, which will present the key issues and most important of course.

 

Competences / Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Basic skills:

. To have the knowledge to provide a basis for originality in developing and / or applying ideas, often in a research context.

. Students are able to integrate knowledge and handle complexity and formulate judgments based on information that was incomplete or limited, include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments.

. Students possess learning skills that enable them to continue studying in a way that will be largely self-directed or autonomous.

 

General skills:

. Have vision plans, organizes and policy, developing capacities to work independently and multi-disciplinary, being agile in decision makin.

. Be able to search for sources of information leading it to expand and update knowledge of their field.


Specific skills:

 

. Be able to critically analyze and discern between the benefits and potential of the elements of the various health care models: local, national and international public and private sector decisions and prioritize understanding the benefit of welfare and health for the Health System.

. Be able to identify and interpret the needs and expectations of patients and potential, designing, developing, adapting and evaluating management programs, and proposing solutions to the requirements objectified achieving a balance between supply and demand.

. Be able to find reliable sources of information that allow to analyze and exploit it so that it facilitates decision-making at all levels of the organization (Clinical results, general services) and are the basis of management innovation as the ability to identify products and generate ideas that are transferred to society (patents, licenses, business creation, start-up or spin-off) in the centers in which management exercises.

. Be able to identify the portfolio of services and key healthcare processes of each organization and level of public and proposing actions to ensure coordination between different levels of care.

. Have the ability to relate the concepts learned and apply them properly, and stay informed of the issues that impact directly or indirectly in healthcare organizations.

 

Learning outcomes of the subject

In this module, we expect the following learning outcomes:

  1. The acquisition of the theoretical and the methodology needed to apply later in future management activities.
  2. The acquisition of skills and abilities of a leading expert in management, from general to more specific
  3. Must have the ability to apply this knowledge in any field of management.

 

Therefore, once this module, students should be able to work effectively and efficiently in all areas of health management in both processes (micro), organizations (middle management) and health institutions (macro-) being aware the influence on the environment, also considering environmental aspects.

 

Syllabus

 

HEALTH MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATIONS:

-Organization Theory Applied: The government institutions, management and organizational charts.

-Strategic planning and business plan: strategic planning methodology and conduct of a business plan

-Economic, financial and equity: The public and the private sector.

-Human resource management: Conceptual framework for human resource management. Models of industrial relations in the health sector. Incorporation of new resources to the organizations. Compensation systems. Talent management and career development. Negotiating and working environment. Managerial roles, competencies. Leadership. Micro communication skills

-Management of physical and technological resources: Functional Plan, Plan. Equipment and maintenance. Green Hospital.

-Purchasing and supplies. Pharmacy Procurement: Procurement of new products, inventory management, distribution of materials.

-Management of general services: Food, cleaning, laundry, security, order and good internal image of the buildings.

-Technologies and information systems: Systems and Technology Plan of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

-Management in the Public Sector: The specificities of public sector management.

 

Teaching and learning activities

In person

CM: Lecture

It is a scenario in which the teacher transmits knowledge in a classroom to the whole group of students with the intention to activate the cognitive processes in students.

The teacher is the one that exposes and the student has a main role of receiver. This is the most common methodology to transmit the knowledge and to ensure the achievement of most powers.

 

TC: Exhibition and work with real-life examples

This methodology will take place in small groups of students who need to deliberate on cases or examples of your own health management, whether real or simulated, with active involvement of the teacher, ending the case with exposure to a common conclusion that allow all acquire knowledge.

 

DD: Discussion and debate of articles, publications, ...

Students will have the documentation and the time to review, prepare or documented, so that the contribution to the group is maximized.

Discussions and activities will be conducted in small groups within the classroom, developing strategies that encourage active student participation.

This format can be done during the master classes as a complement.

 

TT: Tutorials

Establishing a personal relationship advice, where the teacher serves, facilitates and directs one or more students in the learning process.

 

AAP: self-learning activities

These activities are designed for students to solve problems by itself, with the help of material that is provided and has been collecting information on classes and / or during the probationary period and that additional documents provided you, the references, etc ....

 

EP: Personal Study

The student must devote time to personal study, preparing lessons, preparing cases that will work in classrooms, etc ...

 

 

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

 

To qualify for the theoretical evaluation, the student must have attended 90% of classes for each section, so it is important to communicate and justify absences. In special cases the Commission will determine whether the student teachers can be evaluated and will be reported before starting the assessment.

 

 

The placement test is the development of 2 themes in relation to Management of healthcare organizations".

 

 

This development will take place outside the classroom environment, with the help of documentation and literature provided during the course, notes, etc ...

 

The topics will be stated once the theoretical module finishes and the evaluations of the three theoretical modules, will score 40% of the final of the Masters.

 

The evaluation will assess:

- The content and overall consistency.

- The acquisition of knowledge.

- The adoption of the conceptual framework.

- The use of knowledge and concepts.

- The presentation order method.

- The acquisition of skills and integration of these.

- The student's innovative contributions.

 

The rating system is:

A: excellent (9.0 to 10)

B: Very good (7.0 to 8.9)

C: Approved (5.0 to 6.9)

D: Thriller (0 to 4.9)

 

Where to get rated "D" test should be repeated in whole or in part, following the recommendations of a tutorial that helps action to reflection, review and new approach to development of the subject

 

 No work will be evaluated in order to master to have passed this module.
