Introduction

This subject will provide students the knowledge and skills necessary to perform clinical treatments.

Objectives

In this subject students must: 

Documenting all cases with photographs and X-rays. 

Learn to perform cameral openings under magnification. 

Practice different instrumentation techniques. 

Practice different obturation techniques. 

Practice different techniques of removing filling materials.

Competences / Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Being aware of clinical and laboratory-based procedures and diagnostic tests, knowing their reliability and diagnostic viability and being competent in interpreting the results.

 

Knowing how to apply the correct principles to control anxiety and stress in oneself, in patients and in other memebers of the dentistry team.

 

Handling, distinguishing and selecting the tools and materials that are suitable for dentistry.

 

Having knowledge of dental biomaterial: in terms of handling, properties, instructions, allergies, biocompatibility, toxicity and eliminating residues as well as their environmental impact.

 

Taking and interpreting x-rays and other image-based procedures that are important in dental practice.

 

Preparing and isolating the operatory field.

 

Undertaking endodontic treatment and applying procedures to preserve pulp vitality.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Diagnose caries lesions.

 

Establish the need to perform a seal to a carious lesion.

 

Remove the rotten tissue of carious lesion with maximum respect to the remaining tooth structure.

 

Select the means of removal of decayed dentine according to the characteristics of the lesion we face.

 

Conduct a proper medical history face to assess the state of the pulp.

 

Know how to organize the materials and instruments for endodontics, and treatment between patients.

 

List the usual channels and the most frequent variations in each tooth arcade.

 

Adopt appropriate therapeutic attitude before the different pulp and periapical entities that require root canal treatment.

 

Properly isolate the operative field facing a root canal treatment.

 

Properly plan the root canal treatment.

 

Identify the material and instrumental useful in endodontics.

 

Make correct access openings and locate the entrances to the root canals properly implement the ducts properly seal the canals.

 

Perform root canals on different teeth.

Syllabus

Each student must take a minimum of 150 invitro teeth.   

Openings previous camerales teeth ( upper and lower). 

Opening camerales posterior teeth (upper and lower ). 

Use a minimum of 5 instrumentation techniques. 

Use a minimum of 4 obturation techniques. 

Use a minimum of 3 techniques of retreatment. 

Teaching and learning activities

In person

Preclinical practices were carried out in the laboratory of the CUO. Each student must make a dossier with photographs and radiographs of all teeth made.  

Practices will be tutored and supervised by a professor of Endodontics and Restorative Dental.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

At the end of the quarter the student will defend various cases performed in front of a court.
