Introduction

The main objective of this course is to allow students a clinical  basic knowledge of all the topics necessary to perform a root canal, as well as the proper handling of anxious patient, pharmacologic pain management and infection in endodontics and even the most important legal and ethical issues in a specialty ptactice.

- Define the concepts of endodontics and establish its objectives
- Know the etiology, causes and clinical treatment of a variety of dental pulp and periapical inflammations
- Complete a suitable clinical history when assessing the state of the dental pulp
- Know the prognosis of treatment for canals depending on pre-operational variables
- Explain different types of endodontic treatment
- Describe emergency treatment of different pulpoperiapical pathologies
- List essential radiographies for canal treatment and describe how they are performed
- Know how to organise the materials and instruments for endodontics and their treatment between each
patient
- Describe the ideal access openings for each tooth in the arch
- Enumerate the customary canals and the most common variations in each tooth of the arch
- Describe techniques for use of hand instruments during biomechanical preparation
- List different irrigation solutions for use in biomechanical preparation, defining their properties and
indications
- Explain the clinical sequence to be followed throughout biomechanical preparation
- Explain the objectives of canal system obturation
- Know the clinical properties of different canal obturation materials
- Describe the clinical sequence of different obturation techniques with gutta-percha
- Know different endodontic treatments for an immature tooth
- Adopt a suitable therapeutic attitude when dealing with different dental pulp and periapical problems
that require canal treatment

Teaching and learning activities

Seminars of the book's themes vias de la pulpa and Articles chosen by the teacher will be discused. It will take place via online. Students will have to make a PowerPoint presentation

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

Written exam consisting of 30 short questions. 70% is required to pass the exam.
