The student will learn the different mechanisms by which dental pain occurs and the different techniques to control it.
No previous requirements
Via the method of reading and study of established and current literature, reviews and clinical articles, the following learning objectives should be achieved:
1. To understand the influence of analgesic and anti-inflammatory pre-medication during the administration of anaesthesia.
2. To understand the pain control mechanisms before and after endodontic treatment.
3. To diagnose and treat dental pain of a non-odontogenic origin.
4. To determine the effects of sedation on anxiety control in non-cooperative patients. Treatment guidelines.
5. To determine the pharmacological interactions in patients affected by the administration of anaesthesia.
6. To handle endodontic complications and emergencies during and post treatment. To be familiar with the
correct methodology for their solution and with their origin.
7. To establish which are the ideal methods for administering anaesthesia for endodontic treatments and
periapical surgery.
8. To determine the indications and contraindications of antibiotic therapy, as well as its dosage and
administration methods.
9. To determine the indications and contraindications of analgesic and anti-inflammatory medications as
well as its dosage and administration methods.
10. To understand the pharmacology employed in infant patients. To calculate the dosage and indications according to the pulp pathology of the patient.
11. To handle the patient’s complications in the dental clinic. To establish protocols according to the systemic pathology of the patient and the seriousness of the situation.
