This course is newly created for students in 4th grade. Improving the health of people is one of the fundamental goals of nursing. Current scientific evidence shows that in maintaining the health of the people there are different factors that influence and that a very important part of the state of health due to lifestyle, behavior and habits. The evidence also reminds us that there are other factors outside the individual such as genetics, environment and socioeconomic conditions. These determinants are key elements to carry out health promotion and disease prevention effective. Much of the maintenance of health depends on the promotion that bestow health professionals. Public health strategies should aim to preserve and improve health, anticipating the problems of the individual and the community. Actions to improve health must always respect the dignity of people. The latest health report 2008 WHO identifies the renewal of primary health care (PHC) as the most needed health policy for the coming years. The economic and political crisis poses to the state and institutional mechanisms for the challenge of ensuring access to health services to all citizens, provision and financing, including advocacy.

Pre-course requirements

  • We recommend, review prior to the start of the subject knowledge taught in courses with content of Community and Public Health.
  • This course is useful for the Practicum in 4th grade.

Objectives

At the end of the course, students will be able to:


1-Recognize the different programs of health promotion and prevention.
2 - Identify the phases of design, planning, implementation and evaluation of programs of health promotion.
3 - Interpret and critically analyze various programs of health promotion and prevention strategies.
4 - Designing a Plan for Health Promotion and being able to play in a community.

Learning outcomes of the subject

At the end of the course the student will be able to:

• Identify individuals and families with more risk to suffer from certain diseases by their hereditary component.

• Know the preventive strategies in accordance with personal and family risk developing the disease.

• Identify environmental and social factors that influence health

• evaluate the importance of food and its risks.

• Knowledge of the importance of the relationship between health, urban planning, housing and environment.

• Knowledge of the social and ecologically more human city.

• Highlight the importance of the relationship of nurse -patient -family.

• Practice in management of own emotional reactions and the arising in relation to patients, family, and coworkers.

• Identify the socio-political context and economic that affect professional practice and the operation of the health organizations

• raise care plans, incorporating elements of the cultural context of the user and in the context of the code of ethics of nursing.

• Develop, with supervision, plans of managed care to the promotion of health, prevention of disease and disability and the improvement of quality of life, adequate to the reference population.

• Propose strategies to develop the 'empowerment' of the person and the community.

• Recognize the promotion and education of health as a fundamental tool to train individuals and the community to maintain and, especially, to improve their State of health. 

• Understanding the principles that determine the behaviors related to health maintenance, permanence and change.

• Plan, design, implement and evaluate health programs, aimed at the community. Identify strategies for action in health promotion.

• Identify the different agents of health within the community.

• Recognize the different cultures that coexist in our society.

• Use resources responsibly to ensure the sustainability of the system, and social justice.

Syllabus

1) Introduction and conceptual aspects of prevention, promotion and protection of health. Activities to promote health in the community. The radio, school, associations, institutes, centers, etc..
2). Skills required for the evaluation of programs to promote health and prevent disease.
3) Design and planning of prevention programs and interventions and health promotion. Planning, implementation, monitoring of programs. Assessment of needs and demands of the community.
4) Programme of preventive and health promotion (PAPPS).
5) Community programs for the prevention of alcohol, snuff and toxic substances.
6) Programs Promoting Nutrition and Physical Activity.
7) Promotion of Hygiene Habits
8) Promoting healthy leisure.
9) Promotion accidents and injuries.
10) sex education programs. Programs to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
11) Programs of maternal education. The family as the generator of healthy habits of society. Health Tips: Fitness and leisure
12) Environmental Health Programs.
13) i escola health program. Food in schools and healthy eating. Program oral health and hygiene
14) NAOS Strategy (Strategy for nutrition, physical activity and obesity prevention)

Teaching and learning activities

In person

Lectures and active. Encouraging student participation. This course will be reinforced with moodle platform resources. The last four hours of the program will go towards the realization of development projects.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

The course evaluation will be performed jointly by the three teachers of the subject, taking into account the following criteria:

1st Call

1. Continuous assessment through four tutorials end of course project conducted daily (20%).


2. Assessment of Community Health Concepts, prevention and promotion of Prior Knowledge Salut.Test. (10%)

3. Critical Reading + Discussion in class (20%)

4. Design and group presentation of a health program (25%).

5. Written Examination Concepts of the subject (25%)

Each evaluation activity will be exceeded with 5. To himself, he must roll a 5 for to pass the course.

It will be half as long as the activities 3,4 and 5 are adopted. Activities 1 and 2 will not recover.

2nd Call.

Prior to re-enroll in the course must check the compatibility with the other subjects. It will follow the same evaluation criteria for the 1st and 2nd call.
