Introduction

 English for nurses II-Nursing abroad is a subject that introduces and discusses the current public health problems likely to be approached from nursing science. It will also help develop the critical capacity of students to meet the changing health needs. Through the course will present the health problems that affect morbidity and mortality in various geographic realities. This course will help improve the ability to seek employment both locally and internationally. Students will learn the existence of different health systems and how these affect people's health. Current problems have arisen also likely to be addressed through strategies of health promotion and disease prevention. Finally, we present the various possibilities in which nurses can work and research in the international arena of international public health issues. This subject will be taught in English. 

Objectives

 

  1. Know the ways of learning in the nursing profession and to develop skills and knowledge through Patricia Benner model (from novice to expert).
  2. Know the areas of current approach in the nursing profession locally, nationally and internationally.
  3. Discuss the challenges ahead in the field of nursing locally, nationally and internationally.
  4. Recognize the social role of nurses in the media and health policy.
  5. Understand the responsibility of nurses in international public health.
  6. Critically analyze ways in which nurses can work in international groups (networking, research, management, etc. ..).
  7. Know experiences of nurses who have studied nursing and / or processed or developed projects outside Spain.

Learning outcomes of the subject

 

  • Recognize the international dimension of knowledge of nursing and health care.
  • Understand the international dimension of care and communicable diseases in developing countries their prevention and control.
  • Orally communicate information about nursing issues through interventions / oral presentations.
  • Communicate in writing about nursing issues.
  • Read and analyze literature and literature on nursing issues and understand the main ideas.
  • Identify the socio-political and economic influence professional practice and the functioning of health organizations and international development aid.

  • Patricia Benner's model "from novice to expert 'framework for learning and professional development nurse.
  • Systems and health policies.
  • The epidemiology and public health knowledge base of health problems locally and internationally.
  • Contemporary Issues of public health: in countries with high, medium and low income.
  • Global solutions for global problems.
  • Scientific knowledge and sources of information / research
  • International work of nurses (networking, support, research, management, etc ...).

 

Teaching and learning activities

In person

 

Oriented approaches using team work and discussions and lectures that will occupy 35% of total time. Classes are taught primarily in English.

 

The student must participate in class and in workshops, discussing and debating the proposed topics.

  •  Work to develop group work in class and final evaluation
  •  Seminars Troubleshooting


 

Some exercises will be worked in class, others are done independently. Be sent by moodle and / or presented in class.

 

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

 

Course evaluation will be made jointly by the two teachers of the subject, taking into account the following criteria:


  •  Attendance and participation in meetings (20%).
  •  Resolution of the seminars given in class (40%)
  •  Group presentation of an international problem likely to be treated by nurses (40%).
