The Minister of Research and Universities, Joaquim Nadal, visited the Sant Cugat Campus this morning, accompanied by the rector, Alfonso Méndiz, the president of the Board of Trustees, Miguel Ángel Cazcarra and the vice-rector of Academic Organisation and Teaching Staff, Cristina Monforte

During the tour, the minister visited the faculties on the campus: the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Education Sciences, and was able to meet the dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Lluís Giner and the dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences, Enric Vidal.

The minister saw first-hand the research being carried out at the University, as well as the innovative facilities that make up the campuses, accommodating quality research, teaching and knowledge transfer.

Rector Alfonso Méndiz thanked the minister for his interest in the research and transfer done at the University at the service of society, and for the scientific talent in favour of the social impact developed on this biomedical campus. Minister Joaquim Nadal highlighted “the impact on the well-being of the people of the biomedical campus of UIC Barcelona”, thanks to the activity carried out by the University in the field of health sciences and bioengineering, “that is fully aligned with the objectives of the Law of Science, to advance towards knowledge for the benefit of all citizens”.

Throughout the visit, Joaquim Nadal visited the main spaces in the Sant Cugat Campus. The dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Lluís Giner, and Josep Maria García Navas, the manager of the university clinics of UIC Barcelona, showed him around the University Clinic of Dentistry. The delegation was then shown the Faculty of Education Sciences’ classrooms, accompanied by Enric Vidal. The dean explained to the minister that moving the faculty to the Sant Cugat Campus has allowed Education students to share spaces with psychologists, physiotherapists, doctors, nurses, dentists and bioengineers, “creating synergy between both areas of knowledge”.

The director of the bachelor’s degree in Psychology, María Gámiz, guided the delegation around the Support – University Clinic of Psychology and Psychiatry, where first-year students from the degree were taking part in a practical lesson. Then the director of the Nursing department, Encarna Rodríguez, showed them around the Comprehensive Centre for Advanced Simulation, one of highlights of the Campus. Subsequently, the group visited the Biomedical Sciences and Bioengineering laboratories, by Rosalia Rodriguez and Roman Pérez, where they were introduced to the main lines of research being undertaken in these two fields.

The visit at the Sant Cugat Campus ended at the facilities of the Cuides UIC Barcelona clinic with the director M. José Casas. The clinic offers comprehensive, active and individual support to all those who suffer from advanced diseases, as well as their families.
