Introduction

This subject represents the advanced level of clinical techniques in endodontics within an online learning environment. Building upon the technical foundations established in Clinical Techniques I, this course focuses on advanced procedures, complex anatomies, and the management of technical complications.

Students will develop an in-depth understanding of advanced endodontic techniques, their indications, limitations, and potential risks. Emphasis is placed on protocol adaptation, critical evaluation of techniques, and evidence-based technical decision-making in complex clinical scenarios.

Pre-course requirements

Students must have successfully completed Clinical Techniques I or equivalent subjects within the master’s program. A solid understanding of basic endodontic protocols, instrumentation, irrigation, and obturation techniques is required to follow advanced technical concepts.

Objectives

The main objective of this subject is to train students to analyze, select, and justify advanced endodontic clinical techniques in complex situations. By the end of the course, the student will be able to: • Understand and analyze advanced endodontic techniques and protocols. • Adapt clinical techniques to complex anatomical and pathological situations. • Identify and manage technical complications and procedural accidents. • Evaluate different instrumentation and obturation systems based on scientific evidence. • Select appropriate strategies for retreatment and complex canal anatomies. • Justify advanced technical decisions using current scientific literature. • Communicate advanced technical procedures clearly and rigorously

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

CN01 – Identify with precision the most advanced technical processes related to endodontics. • CN03 – Carry out a critical analysis to rigorously assimilate different scientific methodologies. • CN04 – Recognize the origin and development of oral pathologies based on the transversal interrelation of biomedical sciences. • HB02 – Apply advanced scientific evidence to technical decision-making. • HB03 – Manage high technical complexity in endodontic procedures. • HB04 – Classify and justify complex endodontic techniques. • HB07 – Prevent and manage advanced endodontic complications. • HB08 – Apply advanced endodontic techniques with technical rigor. • HB09 – Act rigorously in complex technical situations. • HB16 – Integrate advanced radiological analysis in technical decision-making.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Upon successful completion of this subject, students will be able to: 1. Analyze and justify advanced endodontic clinical techniques. 2. Adapt technical protocols to complex anatomical situations. 3. Identify, prevent, and manage technical complications. 4. Select advanced instrumentation and obturation strategies based on evidence. 5. Critically evaluate different technical approaches. 6. Communicate advanced technical reasoning using appropriate scientific terminology

Syllabus

This subject focuses on advanced endodontic clinical techniques and the management of complex technical situations. The syllabus includes: • Management of complex root canal anatomies • Advanced instrumentation systems and techniques • Reciprocating and rotary systems: indications and limitations • Advanced irrigation protocols and activation systems • Management of procedural accidents (ledges, perforations, fractured instruments) • Retreatment techniques and strategies • Obturation techniques in complex cases • Use of magnification and advanced imaging in clinical techniques

Bibliography and resources

The bibliography for this subject will include advanced endodontic textbooks, consensus documents, and up-to-date scientific articles related to advanced clinical techniques. Additional resources include: • Advanced recorded clinical demonstrations. • Access to scientific journals and databases. • Technical case repositories available through the virtual learning platform. These resources ensure alignment with the latest evidence and best practices in advanced endodontic clinical techniques.
