Introduction

The subject of Management Topics 2 is carried out entirely online and is independent of Management Topics 1: you can take Management Topics 2 without having taken Management Topics 1, and vice versa.

Pre-course requirements

Only students previously authorized, who carry out internships in the same academic year can enroll, and who lack 3 or 6 elective credits to finish the degree and present schedule incompatibility to take another face-to-face elective.

Objectives

1. Acquire generic skills and knowledge of Business Administration and Management.
2. Self-manage time.
3. Ability to relate concepts from different subjects.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

  • 53 - To acquire the skills necessary to learn autonomously.
  • 55 - To adopt good time management skills.
  • 61 - To develop skills for adapting to new situations.
  • 63 - To be able to analyse business related behaviour and decisions and evaluate them from an economic, social and ethical point of view.
  • 65 - To acquire the ability to put knowledge into practice.

Syllabus

Business and / or Economics topics according to the course chosen by the student and approved by the holder of the course.

Teaching and learning activities

Online

The student must take a MOOC course on the Coursera platform (coursera.org) that meets all the requirements described:

a) Be a course in the field of Business or Economics (language learning is excluded).

b) Minimum duration of the course of 26 hours. It is recommended to choose a course between 28-40h.

c) In English, Spanish or Catalan.

d) Offered by a University, Spanish or foreign.

e) That it is a course that has the possibility of obtaining a completion certificate.

f) The course selected by the student must have the explicit approval of the lecturer of the subject BEFORE STARTING IT.

If any of the above requirements is breached, the MOOC will not be considered valid, and the grade for the course will be “Not Presented”, regardless of whether a certificate of having done it is provided.

SEE THE DOCUMENT POSTED IN "DIDACTIC MATERIAL" (the last section).

Evaluation systems and criteria

Online

To pass this course, the following two requirements must be met simultaneously:

1. Submit the Coursera certificate together with its access link proving that you have successfully completed a MOOC course on the Coursera platform that has been previously approved by the course instructor and meets the requirements established above. Both the certificate and the corresponding link must be provided. If either of these two elements is missing, the certificate will not be considered valid. If the certificate and its access link are not submitted, the course cannot be passed and the final grade will be recorded as “Not Submitted” (No Presentado).

This certificate involves a small fee, which varies depending on the university offering the course. Students are advised to check the certificate cost before starting the course.

2. Obtain a minimum grade of 5 out of 10 on the course report (self-assessment report).

CONTENT OF THE REPORT

The report must be between 6 and 8 written pages (excluding the certificate), using 1.5 line spacing, Times New Roman font, size 12, and must include the following sections:

a) Summary of the course content (maximum two pages).

b) Concepts/notions considered most relevant and an explanation of why they are important to you.

c) Reasons for choosing this specific course.

d) General evaluation of your personal experience with the completed MOOC.

e) Relationship between the MOOC and the compulsory courses in the Business Administration and Management (ADE) degree program, and how the MOOC could support them.

Both elements (the Coursera certificate with its access link, and the report) must be uploaded to the course Moodle site as a single document, no later than:

Monday, June 2, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.

If either document is missing, the course will be graded as “Not Submitted” (No Presentado).

Any submission made after the deadline will also be considered “Not Submitted.”

Final Course Grade

The final grade will be based on two components:

  1. The MOOC course certificate, provided it meets the established requirements.
  2. The report.

Weight of the MOOC Certificate: 30% of the Final Grade

The student must provide proof of successful completion of the course, including:

  • The corresponding access link.
  • The certificate itself.

This component contributes 30 points out of 100, provided that the report is passed.

Weight of the Report: 70% of the Final Grade

  • The report is graded on a scale from 0 to 10 and represents 70% of the final grade.
  • If the report is failed, the course cannot be passed. The final course grade will be either the failing report grade or “Not Submitted”, regardless of the certificate points.
  • The report grade will take into account compliance with the formal and content requirements described above under “CONTENT OF THE REPORT.”

Final Grade Calculation

Provided that:

  • The report grade is 5 or higher, and
  • The Coursera certificate and access link have been submitted,

the final grade (out of 100 points) will be calculated as follows:

30 + (Report Grade × 7) = Final Grade (out of 100)

Examples

  • 30 + (6 × 7) = 72 → 7.2 out of 10
  • 30 + (10 × 7) = 100 → 10 out of 10

Resit Examination Period (Second Call)

The resit examination period is intended for students who:

  • Did not obtain the MOOC certificate and its corresponding access link;
  • Completed a MOOC that had not been previously approved by the course instructor;
  • Failed the report;
  • Or did not submit the report within the established deadlines.

To pass the resit period, the student must complete another MOOC course that finishes within the resit examination period and complies with the same requirements and assessment system described for the first call.

In other words:

  • Prior approval from the course instructor is again required before starting the MOOC.
  • The same course requirements established for the first call must be followed.

The final grade will be calculated using the same procedure as in the first call, with one exception:

The maximum grade that can be obtained during the resit period is 70 points (7.0 out of 10).
