Introduction

This course provides students with the opportunity to apply, on real patients and in the laboratory, the knowledge and skills acquired in the foundational and design courses. The work is organized around students’ own clinical cases, which they digitize, plan, design, manufacture, and deliver, documenting each stage of the workflow. Activities take place at the University Dental Clinic and the Faculty’s CAD-CAM laboratory under faculty supervision.

The course is strictly face-to-face due to its clinical nature.

Pre-course requirements

Hold a degree in Dentistry or Medicine (Specialist in Stomatology).

A sufficient level of English to read scientific literature is recommended.

Students must have a laptop that meets the specifications indicated by the program and a 3D mouse.

Objectives

To train students to implement the complete digital workflow in daily clinical practice, from digitization to final delivery.

To consolidate students’ intraoral scanning skills under real clinical conditions.

To train students to make treatment-planning decisions for their own patients and justify them to the teaching team.

To develop the ability to document a digital case in a complete and structured manner.

To train students to work in coordination with the dental laboratory and the CAD-CAM technician.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

To diagnose, plan, and perform treatment using a digital workflow, coordinating the necessary interdisciplinary consultations at each stage.

To manage complications arising during the digital workflow and adapt the treatment plan accordingly.

To present and defend their own clinical cases before faculty and peers, supported by the corresponding literature review.

To apply the safety, hygiene, and radiation protection standards required in clinical practice.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Students will be able to obtain a complete digital record of a patient under clinical conditions.

Students will be able to plan and perform treatments using surgical guides and devices designed by themselves.

Students will be able to manufacture the designed devices in the laboratory and verify their fit.

Students will be able to deliver the rehabilitation and perform follow-up of the clinical case.

Students will be able to document and present their cases with appropriate bibliographic support.

Syllabus

Patient reception protocol and digital patient registration at the University Dental Clinic.

Clinical application of intraoral and extraoral scanning in different situations.

Planning of students’ own clinical cases and discussion sessions with the teaching team.

Guided clinical procedures: guided surgery, tooth preparations, and provisional restorations.

Work in the CAD-CAM laboratory: design, manufacturing, and fit verification.

Delivery, occlusal adjustment, and clinical follow-up.

Photographic and digital documentation of the case.

Clinical sessions for case presentation and discussion.

Teaching and learning activities

In person

Clinical practice on patients at the University Dental Clinic under supervision.
