Introduction

The subject Psychopathology of the Victim aims to deepen the understanding of people who are victims of crime, in the three stages of the victimization process, as well as the relationship that the lifestyle before and after the crime can be related to it.


Objectives

The course is oriented to the student to learn and assimilate everything related to victims. It will be a very practical subject so that later when they find themselves with a case of victims they will know how to make a good evaluation and consequently they will be able to make an expert report without difficulties because they will have the appropriate knowledge to do it successfully. 

1. To learn the legal repercussions that can be derived from each psychopathological situation.

2. To deepen in victimology and the knowledge of the psychological-legal terminology.

3. To participate in the intervention in cases of domestic abuse, psychosocial risk, sexual abuse, delinquency favored by mental illness.

4. To elaborate expert reports on these cases.

5. Attend trials to learn how the ratification in oral trial works.

6. Analyze the factors related to the reliability of testimony.

7. To learn the fields of action of legal psychology in relation to victimology. 


Learning outcomes of the subject

The graduate will be able to apply acquired knowledge to problem solving in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to his or her area of study

The graduate will be able to integrate knowledge related to the formulation of judgments based on (possibly incomplete or limited) information including reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities associated with the application of their knowledge and judgments

The graduate will be able to report his or her conclusions, knowledge and ultimate reasons for them to specialized and non-specialized audiences in a clear and unambiguous manner.

The graduate will be able to use the learning skills acquired to continue studying in a largely self-directed or autonomous manner.


Syllabus

The contents of the course are related to the different types of victims in the legal field. It will specify the typology, the psychological symptomatology in each case, how to make a good evaluation of the victims (including types of interviews, psychometric tests) and finally how to make an expert report in each specific case. 

The course will focus on victims of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, pornography, torture, terrorism and victims of internet crimes.


Teaching and learning activities

In person



- Theoretical classes, with the provision of notes on what was explained in class (classes will be preferably in Spanish).

- Critical analysis of concrete and real cases, with group discussion.

- Experiences on testimony valuation.

- Making expert interventions on practical cases. 


Evaluation systems and criteria

In person



Class attendance. A minimum of 80% of attendance to the classroom sessions will be required in order to be evaluated and satisfactorily pass the course. With an overall average of class attendance lower than 80% but higher than 60%, the coordinating teacher of the course may require the student, as a requirement to be evaluated, the completion of some additional work or practice of proficiency. In any case, with an average class attendance lower than 60%, no student may be evaluated and the course will be considered not passed, having to go to the second call. In the second call, students will not be able to obtain more than a 5.0 as final grade of the course.

Continuous evaluation. The participation of the student in the teaching dynamics of the classes will be considered a complementary part of the evaluation and the realization of exercises (20%).

Final work or exam of the course.

- An expert report related to the victim will be carried out. The review of the case will be carried out by the professor on April 20, 2025 and the report will be delivered by mail on June 8, 2025. (40%). The oral defense of the expert report will be on June 22, 2025 (40%).
