Introduction

Better knowledge of the basic issues of periodontics and expand the student's knowledge.

Pre-course requirements

Degree in dentistry

Objectives

To learn the fundamentals of periodontics in a dynamic manner, facilitating their understanding and clinical application. To assimilate theoretical knowledge regarding the epidemiology and etiopathogenesis of periodontal and peri-implant diseases, enabling accurate diagnosis and the formulation of treatment plans. Emphasis will be placed also on prevention and supportive periodontal therapy. The course also aims to introduce and establish the foundations of surgical periodontal treatment.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

  • CN01 - Acquire specialized and advanced knowledge in periodontal and peri-implant diseases.
  • CP01 - Apply a correct diagnosis and treatment plan in the periodontal patient scientifically supported by current literature in periodontics and implants.
  • CP02 - Resolve periodontal and peri-implant problems that affect the population.
  • HB05 - Apply in depth non-surgical and surgical periodontal and peri-implant treatment techniques.
  • HB06 - Diagnose any pathology in the field of periodontics of the oral cavity.
  • HB10 - Act in response to emergencies and problems that may occur during periodontal treatment.

Learning outcomes of the subject

  • - Oral Clinical Periodontics - CN01, HB04, CP01, CP06 - 1. Recognize periodontal and peri-implant pathologies. 2. Recognize the different phases of periodontal treatment and their objectives. 3. Describe the relationship of periodontitis with its local and systemic risk factors. 4. Identify the etiopathogenesis and mechanisms of association between endodontics, prosthesis and orthodontics with periodontics. 5. Identify the curettes used to perform periodontal treatment and achieve the ability to sharpen them. 6. Indicate the appropriate oral hygiene technique for each patient. 7. Indicate the appropriate treatment in each phase of periodontal treatment, according to the diagnosis and clinical needs of the patient. 8. Indicate the cases in which it is necessary to perform periodontal surgery, the type of surgery and appropriate materials in each case.
