Introduction

Journalistic Language I is a 6 ECTS-credit subject taught during the 2nd semester of year one of the Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and contributes and forms the basis of Audiovisual Journalism’s academic curriculum. As a result, and together with other subjects taken in year one, this subject helps prepare students for the second year subject Television Communication.

This course aims to help students acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills of journalistic language, specifically in audiovisual journalism. In this sense, Journalistic Language I serves as an introduction to the concepts, technologies, style, and practices of audiovisual language in the journalistic field, as well as the techniques and routines of production in newsrooms. It is, therefore, the theoretical study and basic experimentation of the specificities of audiovisual information and the regular work of the news services of a television channel.

The subject also aims to ensure that students are capable of reflecting on the professional and social environment in which they will work and critically analysing  journalistic content. Journalistic Language I, in addition to the formal programme, will also introduce, in a cross-cutting manner, the topics and skills required to give future journalists comprehensive instruction.
