The Academic Committee of each programme assigns a supervisor to the doctoral candidate who will be the senior person in charge of the consistency and suitability of their educational activities and the impact and novelty factor of the chosen topic of the doctoral thesis, and will guide the doctoral candidate in planning their research.
Once accepted in the doctoral programme, each doctoral candidate will be assigned a tutor by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme. This person will be a Doctor with proven research experience associated with the Doctorate School and will be responsible for overseeing the doctoral candidate’s interaction with the Academic Committee.
As a general rule, the tutor will be the same person as the thesis supervisor. In cases where the supervisor is a researcher who is not under contract to the UIC – in other words, from another institution with which the University works on joint research projects – it will be essential to assign the doctoral candidate a tutor from among the teaching staff of the UIC.
