Richard Taylor & Tania Rodger: "For the Joy of Making and Creating"

Academy-Award winner and Wētā Workshop CEO, Richard Taylor, and his wife and business partner Tania Rodger will share the story of how they developed a design and manufacture facility servicing the world’s creative industries from their hometown of Wellington in New Zealand.

Together, Taylor and Rodger have worked in major film productions such as The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Chronicles of Narnia and King Kong.

Richard Taylor & Tania Rodger will talk about the innovation, inspiration, creativity and drive required to develop and deliver content, products and experiences for the world’s creative industry at a consistently award winning level.

Richard Taylor and Tania Rodger started their model making business in the small back room of their flat in 1987. With a career now spanning 34 years and having provided creative services to some of the largest films and TV series of the past two decades, Richard and Tania have expanded their business to encompass multiple other creative endeavours.

Their team at Weta Workshop is best known for their work on films such as The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, the Narnia trilogies and the Avatar films and have provided services to over 120 films and TV shows. Richard has won 5 Oscars, 4 Baftas, and over 30 national and international awards for their work in the creative industries around the world.

In parallel to their film work, Richard, Tania, and their team also work comprehensively in the Location Based Experience industry and have been awarded 2 THEA awards for their work in this creative arena.

Today, Richard and Tania run a company of 340 people out of their workshop in Wellington New Zealand. They are both very involved in the community and have proudly been the Patrons to the New Zealand Neo Natal Trust for the past 20 years. In 2010, Richard was awarded a Knighthood for his service to film.
