3rd International Congress on Family and Society: Education, Work and Culture

The UIC Barcelona's Institute of Advanced Family Studies (IESF) was invited to take part in the 3rd International Congress on Family and Society: Education, Work and Culture, which was jointly organized by the Universidad de Los Andes (Chile) and the UIC Barcelona. The event was held in Santiago, Chile, on Thursday and Friday, 13-14 August 2015. It was the third edition of the Congress, which was created by the IESF in 2008.

Dr. Montserrat Gas, the Director of the IESF, spoke on the subject of family solidarity and discussed its theoretical basis and perspectives for research. Dr. Marc Grau, a research assistant from the Santander IsFamily Chair, also attended the event. In his speech, he spoke about the role of fathers and presented empirical evidence regarding their contribution to household chores.

On Wednesday, 12 August 2015, Dr. Gas and Dr. Grau also took part in the 3rd Meeting of the World Family Map, an international research project led by Professor Bradford Wilcox from the University of Virginia. Since 2011, four studies have emerged from this project, including the following: The Sustainable Demographic Dividend (2011), Children's Living Arrangements and Educational Outcomes Around the World (2013), Family Instability and Early Childhood Health (2014) and Work, Family & Happiness the World Over (2015).
