The Chair for Management by Missions analyses business purpose with industry experts and students

The Chair organised a round table, formed by Lorena Véguez (Almirall), Mari Pau Gómez (Lecta Group) and Jordi Tusell (Falck), where they analysed the benefits of working with corporate purpose. The round table was moderated by Miquel Bastons, co-director of the Chair for Management by Missions, and Mayte Márquez, directorate of Consulting Area DPMC

“We want to offer this space to young professional people to generate debate. To have a conversation about purpose, about how people find meaning to their work and bring it to their organisation.” Mayte Márquez, directorate of Consulting Area DPMC, started the round table that brought together professionals from the Human Resources sector and students with the aim of analysing corporate purpose in companies.

Mari Pau Gómez, Talent Management Director at Lecta Group, highlighted the benefit of management by objectives to facilitate corporate purpose. “It’s important to understand the context and values of the company you work in. To do this, it is key to generate a conversation between manager and employee so that the latter understands that they are part of the purpose, and their contribution adds to the benefit of all.”

Jordi Tusell, Managing Director at Falck Sanitary Services, explained how corporate purpose was not initially an issue in his sector, but that it had become essential in the current climate. And he added that “purpose must make sense personally. If you have no purpose, you don’t miss it, but when you have it, you can’t lose it.”

Lorena Véguez Mato, People and Culture in Almirall, shared the vision and importance that Almirall gives to corporate purpose with the students: “It’s our north star, our guide. The objectives of the company must help corporate purpose grow. The objectives must be aligned with the purpose, one condition cannot exist without the other.”

Students and speakers then had the opportunity to exchange questions and ideas during the event. Organised by the Chair for Management and Corporate Purpose, the round table offered different perspectives on the experience of purpose in organisations of different sectors and contexts. The event was open to students from all the faculties of UIC Barcelona.
