GSK and UIC Barcelona launch the Severe Asthma Classroom

By means of this collaboration, the University and the biopharmaceutical company demonstrate their commitment to training and knowledge transfer in the field of severe asthma

UIC Barcelona and the biopharmaceutical company GSK have signed a cooperation agreement to launch the new Severe Asthma Classroom, promoted by the University Institute for Patient Care, with a view to promoting activities focused on healthcare, teaching and information on this respiratory condition.

The two institutions will share the commitment of promoting academic initiatives of clinical and social relevance, and the responsibility of understanding and studying the experiences of asthmatic patients, as well as the factors involved in controlling the disease to help improve treatment. In addition, the University's new company-sponsored classroom, located at the University Institute for Patient Care, will organise activities to help assess the environmental impact on severe asthma, the impact felt by patients due to COVID-19, the indirect effect of the mobility restrictions caused by the pandemic, and ways to control severe childhood asthma.

The academic initiatives will be complemented by expert participation. In this regard, over the course of 2021, the Severe Asthma Classroom will organise workshops, online seminars and events with healthcare professionals, directors, hospital staff and patients, which will help to advance treatment for severe asthma amidst the environmental and epidemiological contexts in which we find ourselves.
