Two students from our Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication teach a cinema course at the Torxa youth club

Sandra Burgalés and Camila Fernández-Cruz passed on the knowledge they are acquiring to a group of girls between the ages of eight and twelve

UIC Barcelona second year Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication students Sandra Burgalés and Camila Fernández-Cruz taught a three-week-long cinema course at the Torxa youth club, an educational project set up by the Xaragall Cultural, Sports and Social Association. Our students taught a group of girls aged between eight and twelve how to make a short film professionally, during an activity that allowed them to convey the knowledge they are acquiring at the Faculty of Communication Sciences.

“On the first day we gave a more theoretical session, but from the second session we started working in groups, simulating the different departments that are set up for a film production,” explains Sandra Burgalés, who adds that the group of girls quickly gelled, and they “cooperated and contributed ideas from the very beginning.” From then on, the students from our Faculty demonstrated the key aspects of a day of filming in a practical way: pressure, time, the importance of teamwork and scene repetition, among others.

“We enjoyed teaching and the girls had fun learning, it was an enriching experience,” said Burgalés, who pointed out that “being able to transmit the knowledge we have learned in the Faculty to future generations has helped us to fully absorb many of the concepts.” As a result of all of this, the Audiovisual Communication student said “she would participate in this activity again without hesitation.”
