Introduction

The hospital practices in the oral and maxillofacial surgery service of the Hospital de Mollet del Vallès by the students of the IMOS R2 (surgical team assistant) and R3 (qualification of operator according to the criteria of the teacher in charge, aim to give the student a broader vision of oral surgery, working with hospital surgical teams in clinical cases of patients with moderate or high surgical complexity.These practices are carried out during the first two years of the IMOS at hospitals in collaboration agreement with the UIC.

During the third year, the student will consolidate his skills in oral surgery

This activity is always supervised by a specialist and is a complement to the students' theoretical training.

These practices are mandatory and carried out by groups of two students throughout the school year.

Objectives

 

1) Learn to diagnose, plan treatment and treat cases of moderate and high complexity in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.       2) Introduction to maxillofacial surgery in different fields: oncological, glandular surgery, orthognathic surgery and oral surgery.       3) Know the sterility measures of the operative field at the hospital level.       4) Learn to work in team.       5) Completion of Master's Final Projects and research studies.       6) Consolidate and implement all the knowledge acquired during the first and second year

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Diagnose oral pathology (anamnesis, physical examination, interpretation of complementary tests).   Planning of oral surgery l (surgical time, type of anesthesia, surgical approach).   Assist the main surgeon during surgery.   Preparation of a sterile field.   Research for the realization of scientific studies.   Postoperative recommendations.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Overall assessment of the patient.   Surgical planning   Learning different surgical techniques   Learning of different types of anesthesia in the patient with oral and maxillofacial pathology.   Use and description of surgical material in oral and maxillofacial surgery.   Know how to prepare a sterile surgical field.   Postoperative treatment and postal recommendations.   Learn to conduct clinical studies and / or review medical histories.   Ability to make decisions effectively and autonomously at the time of diagnosis and during oral surgery

 

Teaching and learning activities

Each R3 student (IMOS 3) will attend the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service at the Mollet del Vallès Hospital for 4 weeks in a row every Friday morning, accompanied by their R2 (IMOS 2) who will only attend as an assistant.
