Introduction

In the event that the health authorities announce a new period of confinement due to the evolution of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, the teaching staff will promptly communicate how this may effect the teaching methodologies and activities as well as the assessment.


Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is the area of dentistry that deals with the supervision, guidance and correction of growth and maturation of the craniofacial structures.

Major responsibilities of orthodontic practice include the diagnosis, prevention, interception and treatment of occlusion anomalies and associated changes in bone and soft tissue.

The orthodontist should monitor the guidance of the dentition and the relationship between their supporting structures to achieve and maintain harmonious relations between the face and cranial structures that allow the patient physiology and dento-facial aesthetics optimal.

Pre-course requirements

Degree in dentistry

Objectives

Diagnosis and treatment planning of patients assigned

Periodical control of the the clinical course of patients treated

Discuse mechanical treatment used

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Be competent to obtain and analize diagnostic patient records 

Make a diagnosis and treatment plan 

Be competent in the use of different orthodontic appliances for the treatment of malocclusions 

Competent to solve the various complications that arise along the orthodontic treatment 

Be competent to raise a retention strategy at end of treatment

Learning outcomes of the subject

Acquiring expertise in the treatment of malocclusions with at least one fixed appliance technique.

Properly handle the auxiliary appliances

Properly handle or removable appliances and functional appliances

Syllabus

Practical application of the contents of theoretical subjects, especially orthodontic techniques
