Introduction

In the event that the health authorities announce a new period of confinement due to the evolution of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, the teaching staff will promptly communicate how this may effect the teaching methodologies and activities as well as the assessment.


The subject "Anthropology", aimed at the degree in Audiovisual Communication, aims to provide students with an introduction to the different conceptions of the human being present in Western culture, as an approach to high culture that may be useful as a source of ideas in the creative process. The sessions will include the viewing of illustrative videos that will serve to relate the ideas presented by the authors with the different techniques of expression of thought through audiovisual language.

No prerequisites are required.

Objectives

In the process of creating audiovisual content it is essential to have a perspective of the evolution of the conceptions of the human being throughout the different historical periods. During the course, these historical conceptions will be confronted with the current alternatives, with the aim of achieving a solid humanistic formation in the communication field.

Learning outcomes of the subject

At the end of the semester, students of "Anthropology" subject will be able to demonstrate the following acquired knowledge: 

     · Ability to apply the acquired knowledge in the subjects of philosophy of the

       image, anthropology and analysis of contents.

     · Ability to design and perform models of interpretation and criticism, as well

       as to analyze and interpret data.

     · Ability to design content for an audiovisual production and meet the needs

       with real limitations, such as economic, environmental, social, political,

       ethical, health and safety, promotion and sustainability.

     · Ability to interact in multidisciplinary teams.

     · Ability to identify, formulate and solve problems of interpretation of contents

       of communicative products.

     · Understanding of ethical and professional responsibility.

     · Ability to communicate effectively.

    · General education needed to understand the impact of communicative

       contents in a global, economic, human and social context.

    · Recognition of the need and ability to participate in lifelong continuous

       learning.

BLOCK I: CLASSICAL AND MEDIEVAL PERIOD

Topic 1.- Socratic dialectics as a search for truth.

Topic 2.- Aristotle's Lyceum: esoteric and exoteric communication.

Topic 3.- The syllogistic logic as a means of debate.

BLOCK II: RATIONALISM AND MODERNITY

Topic 4.- Hobbesian materialism and its derivations.

Topic 5.- Discards, the subjectivity and the origins of Modernity.

Topic 6.- The universal languages: the proposal of Leibniz

BLOCK III: ILLUSTRATION, PROGRESS AND REVOLUTION

Topic 7.- Knowledge communication and criticism in Kant.

Topic 8.- The Hegelian dialectic and the idea of progress.

Topic 9.- Journalism as a means of spreading ideas: the challenge of Marx.

BLOCK IV: TOWARDS THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD

Topic 11.- Raciovitalism and Europeanism in Ortega.

FORMATIVE ACTIVITY

CREDItS ECTS

Video class. In video class the teacher not only transmits content or knowledge, but also, and above all, attitudes, motivation, aptitudes, values, etc. It also facilitates that the attendees can express their opinions and their arguments against the rest of students.
Coaching. Monitoring, individually or in very small groups, of how students assimilate the contents of the subject. In coaching sessions, defects will be corrected, questions will be clarified, exercises and activities will be proposed to achieve the objectives set.
Guiding Junior. In order to encourage the revision and deepening of competences and knowledge, as well as the development of habits of social commitment and responsibility, the more advanced students will guide lower-level students, especially if they have some kind of personal handicap (physical, etc.) .

Focused Parxis. Periodic delivery of exercises to learn theory through practice. Each exercise will be aimed at acquiring knowledge very well defined and adapted to the circumstances.
Seminar. This activity will consist of deepening monographically on specific topics, especially current - in some cases, socially debated, through active work in small groups.

Peer learning. With this activity students are expected to gain analytical skills and critical ability One way to achieve this is to correct exercises, products, etc. Of his own companions. Each student will obtain a double evaluation: as a receiver and as a transmitter of critical knowledge.

Evaluation systems and criteria

The subject consists of two parts, taught by two teachers:

- Part 1 (Jordi Puigdomènech) BLOCKS I-IV

- Part 2 (Rita Cavallotti) BLOCK V

* The evaluation will be done as follows:

1) Short essay an final exam. (6 points) in which will be evaluated:

* Part 1 (max. 4 points): will consist of writing a work (short essay) following the guidelines and contents set out in part 1.

* Part 2 (max 2 points): will consist of an exam answering several questions related to the topics developed in part 2 of the subject.

 2) Exercices (2 points): in both Part 1 and Part 2, a series of qualifying tests will be proposed as a continuous assessment (written expression exercises and / or oral presentations). 

3) To choose between: Practicum Solidario / Philosophical work (2 points)

* Students who have not presented or have suspended the final test may submit to the 2nd call, the structure of the examination being the same as the first call (6 points). In the final exam, students who do not take part in the continuous assessment will have to answer an additional question that will add up to a maximum of 2 points.
