Introduction

  • The subject of New Roles in Nursing, is a newly created subject aimed at 4th Degree students. With a new content, it will put the student in contact with an emerging perspective on the work of nursing professionals in the various areas in which they are positioning themselves as leaders in the care of people. The leadership of nurses in emerging roles, opens up new possibilities for professional development and visualization of nursing work, while opening new fields to labor insertion.

Pre-course requirements

The Department of Nursing in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences has agreed that it is compulsory for all students taking a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, when participating in online classes, to turn on their camera and remain visible to lecturers and professors at all times

If there are students in self-isolation due to the COVID-19 health and safety measures, who cannot physically attend class at the University like their peers, teaching staff will carry out online teaching during this isolation period only so that the student(s) in question can attend their classes online. The rest of the students will have to attend their classes in person in the classroom.

Objectives

  1. Introduce undergraduate students to emerging roles in Nursing 
  2. Deepen the importance of nursing leadership in the management of health care in the population 
  3. Familiarize students with new areas of professional development.

Learning outcomes of the subject

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the different emerging roles 
  2. Express commitment to the development of nursing leadership in the new areas of nursing care 
  3. Propose strategies to develop the empowerment of the person, the group and the community, in relation to new nursing roles 
  4. Identify the different health agents in the community 
  5. Recognize the different cultures that coexist in our society 
  6. Identify the socio-political and economic context that are influencing the development of new nursing roles 
  7. Design the process of monitoring a patient from their hospital admission until they return home

Evaluation systems and criteria

  1. Multiple choice exam (100%). 
  2. The speakers of each of the items will do a shared exam to assess the knowledge of the student on the continguts exposed.
  3. Matriculation d'Honors will not be granted in the 2nd convocation.
  4. The attendance to the classes is obligatory (80%). Attendance list will be passed

Honor Matrix Assignment Procedure (MH)

  1. The criterion for assigning Honorary Enrolments (MH) is based on the Excellent (9.0).
  2. The assignment is solely for the teacher and does not have to give it, even if the student has obtained a mark above 9.0.
  3. In case the teacher decides to award MH, he will not take into account the numerical mark and the highest, but will evaluate other factors. The HM might not match the highest numeric score.

Procedure for Non-presented Assignment (NP)

  1. To register an NP in the student's file, it must not have been submitted to any of the evaluation tests throughout the assignment.
If a student has submitted to one of the evaluation tests, the corresponding percentages in the teaching guide will be applied, with a 0 in those not presented.
