Introduction

In the event that the health authorities announce a new period of confinement due to the evolution of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, the teaching staff will promptly communicate how this may effect the teaching methodologies and activities as well as the assessment.


En las sociedades democráticas la información tiene un papel tan fundamental que condiciona su propia existencia. Se extiende y alcanza cualquier actividad humana, influyendo en la toma de decisiones y en la propia percepción de lo que acontece en el mundo. La era digital ha multiplicado en apenas dos décadas de manera inimaginable  los canales decomunicación por los que fluye la información. Las teorías clásicas que abordan los fenómenos asociados a la comunicación, se ven ahora desbordados por nuevos paradigmas. Ésta asignatura responde a la necesidad de incorporar al estudio tradicional de los modelos que rigen la comunicación, aquellos otros que son consecuencia de la inmersión en un mundo digital, interactivo y sin fronteras. Familiarizarse con ese entorno permite desarrollar un necesario sentido crítico que ayude a entender mejor la realidad.

Objectives

  • Comprender amplia y profundamente los fenómenos de la comunicación y de la información.
  • Conocer la rutina de los profesionales de la información que trabajan en los medios audiovisuales. 
  • Reflexionar sobre el papel que desempeña la información audiovisual en las sociedades de hoy. 
  • Asimilar el funcionamiento de los procesos de comunicación y sus efectos sobre la sociedad. 
  • Complementar el aprendizaje teórico sobre las ciencias de la comunicación y de la información con su aplicación práctica. 
  • Desarrollar capacidad de pensamiento crítico en relación con algunos patrones de actuación en los medios contemporáneos. 
  • Entender y valorar la dimensión de responsabilidad profesional de los comunicadores.

Learning outcomes of the subject

  1. Los alumnos descubrirán el funcionamiento de los procesos informativos en los medios audiovisuales.
  2. Los alumnos comprenderán las distintas dimensiones que constituyen la información audiovisual que consumen a diario.
  3. Los alumnos aprenderán a reflexionar sobre diversos aspectos teóricos de la comunicación y de la información, para después poder aplicarlos en el desarrollo de la práctica periodística. 
  4. Los alumnos profundizarán en la cultura y el pensamiento contemporáneo y sus influencias en dinámicas de comunicación.

Peer learning. The aim of this activity is to ensure that students gain the ability to analyse and be critical. One way of achieving this is by correcting their peers' exercises and results, etc. Each student will be evaluated twice: as both a recipient and a transmitter of critical knowledge.

Seminar. This activity will consist of taking an in-depth look at specific up-to-date topics in a monographic manner-in some cases these topics will have been debated socially-, via active work in small groups.

Focused Praxis. Handing in occasional exercises to learn theory through practice.

Practical workshop. A highly practical working activity, where students can acquire skills that are practical or also theoretical (intellectual skills, logical skills, critical skills, intellectual learning skills, study skills, quoting skills, etc).

Lectures. In lectures, lecturers/professors not only transmit content or knowledge, but also, and above all else, attitudes, motivation, skills and values, etc. They also ensure that participants can express their opinions and arguments to the other students.

Coaching. Monitoring how students learn the content of the subject, either individually or in groups. In the coaching sessions, mistakes will be corrected, queries answered, and exercises and activities to achieve the established objectives will be suggested.
