Industrial and economic development in recent decades has generated an enormous amount of waste, due mainly to new consumer habits across all public, private, industrial and service sectors.

This has led to greater concern about improving and protecting the environment and about developing management systems that adequately control and manage this waste.

Indiscriminate consumption and the uncontrolled dumping of waste deteriorate the environment. To avoid this damage, UIC Barcelona promotes the following strategic goals:

  1. Maximise prevention
  2. Maximise assessment
  3. Maximise recycling
  4. Minimise disposal (dumping)

The University has developed a protocol as part of the Plan for Prevention and Environmental Management to correctly handle waste management on both campuses through the appropriate channels.

Waste is sorted by type of material and origin. There is also a programme for separating ordinary waste, which is in a different stage on implementation on both campuses. Special waste is sorted correctly on both campuses, and the waste is removed through an external service.

If you have any questions about how to dispose of certain waste, please send an e-mail to the Occupational Risk Prevention Unit (UPRL) at prevencio@uic.es or call extension 5185.
