Objectives
The learner will:
1. Identify and describe life-threatening health situations for the individual.
2. Describe the concepts of urgency and emergency.
3. Identify, evaluate and act rapidly in human responses to life-threatening health problems.
4. Act taking into account the ethical aspects inherent in the care of the person.
5. Demonstrate reflective thinking before and at the end of patient care.
6. Recognise and use protocols, guidelines and standards of action in critical situations of the person.

Learning outcomes of the subject
- Recognise the common pathologies of emergent, emergency and hospitalised patients.
- Identify signs and symptoms of specific pathologies in critical, surgical, emergency, urgent and hospitalised adults.
- Prioritise care according to care needs.
- Act in critical situations applying teamwork and effective communication.
- Apply safe patient practice in relation to the management of pharmacological treatments and action protocols.
- Exercise and apply both clinical and transversal competences (detailed above) necessary for the resolution of the clinical situations that will be presented to the students.

Teaching and learning activities
In person
The methodology followed in the course will combine theoretical classes with exercises and case method, and workshops with a teaching-learning methodology based on reflective thinking, practice and participation.
The workshop groups have been planned with 16 people per group.
Classes have a duration of 1h 45 min.
Evaluation systems and criteria
In person
The course will be assessed by means of:
Final exam: 50%.
Continuous assessment: 50%.
- 10% attendance (from the second absence onwards, each absence will be penalised by 0.5 points on the continuous assessment).
- 5% of activities in the lecture hall.
- 10% of questions and reflections in workshops
- 25% summary of workshop work.
If the subject is failed in the first call both for not getting a 5 in the final exam and for not having an average of 5 in the subject despite passing the final exam, it will be recovered in the second call with an exam.
Honor Matrix Assignment Procedure (MH)
- The criterion for assigning Honorary Enrolments (MH) is based on the Excellent (9.0).
- The assignment is solely for the teacher and does not have to give it, even if the student has obtained a mark above 9.0.
- In case the teacher decides to award MH, he will not take into account the numerical mark and the highest, but will evaluate other factors. The HM might not match the highest numeric score.
Procedure for Non-presented Assignment (NP)
- To register an NP in the student's file, it must not have been submitted to any of the evaluation tests throughout the assignment.
- If a student has submitted to one of the evaluation tests, the corresponding percentages in the teaching guide will be applied, with a 0 in those not presented.
