Introduction

Internships are an essential part of the University Master's Degree in Arts and Cultural Management, since they provide the students with the opportunity of entering into contact with a specific cultural field, the possibility to be involved in the implementation and development of a project and in the working dynamics of a cultural institution or company. Moreover, the internships enable the students to apply the knowledge and abilities acquired during the lectures and, in this way, they complement and enrich the students´ training in arts and cultural management.

Pre-course requirements

The same as for the Master's Degree.

Objectives

  • To know how an institution or company operating in the cultural management field work.
  • To know the processes related to the implementation and management of a cultural product.
  • To reflect on the work experience.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Basic competence:
To have learning skills which allow students to continue to study in a way that will be mainly autonomous or self-directed.


General competence:
To know how to communicate, encourage and mediate between the various agents who take part in a project, programme or cultural service.

Cross-disciplinary competence:
To design, direct, produce and evaluate projects, programmes, strategies, policies or cultural actions which involve a wide variety of different professional profiles, agents and institutions.

Specific competence:
To undertake the work proposed in a public or private company or institution, managing time both efficiently and effectively. 

Learning outcomes of the subject

The student:

Syllabus

Since the internship is a practical subject, it has no specific content; the students should apply all the knowledge acquired during the lectures to the professional field.

Information to be taken into account:

The internship can be carried out either during the academic year (in the mornings) or until October following the end of the academic year

The internship consists of various stages:

  1. Initial tutorial. Individual tutoring of each student with the internship coordinator. Delivery of the internship application form and updated CV.
  2. Search for internships. Contact with the student's preferred entities, companies and institutions to find out their availability. Personal interview and assignment of internships.
  3. Signature of the Agreement and/or Practice Annex. Preparation of administrative documentation and transfer of the Agreement and/or Practice Annex for signature.
  4. Monitoring during practices. Monitoring of the practices by the coordinator and group tutoring with the academic tutor for the subject.
  5. Evaluation of practices. Presentation by the student of the Internship report and of the Evaluation report prepared by the tutor of the host entity, company or institution.

Throughout the course, the UIC tutor will be available for orientation sessions with the students who request them.

Academic activities

  • Tutorials: meetings between a lecturer or professor and one or various students in order to oversee the learning evolution and guide the work within the framework of the subjects which form part of the curriculum.
  • Visits to institutions and companies: practical session in which a visit is made to the facilities in a cultural institution or company and a session is held with either the cultural manager or the head of one of the departments in the organisation.
  • Undertaking work placements: training carried out in institutions and cultural companies in which the student will demonstrate that they have obtained the knowledge and skills acquired in the theoretical module.

Evaluation systems and criteria

The evaluation of the Internship subject will be carried out by the academic tutor in accordance with the provisions of the teaching guide, contemplating the following phases:

  • Preparation by the student of a Final Internship Report that must be presented to the practice coordinator within a maximum period of 10 calendar days from the end of the practice. The report will be evaluated by the academic tutor and will represent 30% of the final grade for the subject.
  • Preparation by the tutor of the collaborating entity, company or institution of the Final Evaluation Report that must be sent by the tutor to the internship coordinator within a maximum period of 10 days from the end of the internship. The report and the grade given in it by the tutor of the collaborating entity, company or institution will represent 70% of the final grade for the subject.

They will be taken into account, on the one hand, the quality of the work carried out and the involvement in the project and, on the other hand, the report presented, which must include a reasoned explanation and a critical assessment of the work carried out.
