For many young people today, planning a family represents a real challenge. Contemporary society is marked by a sense of unpredictability that permeates all areas of life. Economic precariousness, characterised by job instability, difficulty accessing housing and uncertainty about the future, constitutes a genuine obstacle to envisioning and sustaining a shared long-term vision. In this context, young people’s life paths seem fragmented, subject to multiple transitions and the pressure of having to constantly “improvise” in a present that offers little security. This gives rise to a scenario in which planning a family – traditionally seen as a source of stability, care and intergenerational transmission – is often perceived as a risk rather than an opportunity.

The aim of this workshop is to create a space for reflection and dialogue on young people’s life paths in contemporary society, with particular attention to supporting family plans.

The workshop will also serve as a framework for the REDIUF (International Network of University Family Institutes), REDIFAM (Latin American Network of University Family Institutes) and REDIF (European Network of University Family Institutes) assemblies.

Objectives

  1. To understand the current context of young people’s life transitions.
  2. To develop proposals applicable to family policy and work with young people and families in general.
  3. To offer key insights for shaping the Church’s family pastoral care.
  4. To create a space for academic and pastoral dialogue that enables the development of coordinated proposals.
