For many young people today, planning a family represents a real challenge. Contemporary society is marked by a sense of unpredictability that permeates all areas of life. Economic precariousness, characterised by job instability, difficulty accessing housing and uncertainty about the future, constitutes a genuine obstacle to envisioning and sustaining a shared long-term vision. In this context, young people’s life paths seem fragmented, subject to multiple transitions and the pressure of having to constantly “improvise” in a present that offers little security. This gives rise to a scenario in which planning a family – traditionally seen as a source of stability, care and intergenerational transmission – is often perceived as a risk rather than an opportunity.
The aim of this workshop is to create a space for reflection and dialogue on young people’s life paths in contemporary society, with particular attention to supporting family plans.
The workshop will also serve as a framework for the REDIUF (International Network of University Family Institutes), REDIFAM (Latin American Network of University Family Institutes) and REDIF (European Network of University Family Institutes) assemblies.
Objectives
- To understand the current context of young people’s life transitions.
- To develop proposals applicable to family policy and work with young people and families in general.
- To offer key insights for shaping the Church’s family pastoral care.
- To create a space for academic and pastoral dialogue that enables the development of coordinated proposals.
