From 25 to 27 January the UAB-Casa Convalescència hosted the national and international conference on university service learning (ApS), organised by the twelve Catalan universities. UIC Barcelona actively participated in the congress, attended by nearly 300 participants – including teachers, students and academic institutions – and about 200 posters and papers were presented. Three lecturers from the Faculty of Education Sciences, Maite Fuertes, Mariona Graell and Mariana Fuentes were part of the organising committee of the congress. The rectors of the Catalan universities participated in the opening day, and UIC Barcelona rector Alfonso Méndiz gave a speech.

This alarming humanitarian situation, which also affects public health, has a direct impact on the increasing inequalities and the democratic quality of our coexistence.

María Carcaboso is fourth year Journalism student in the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Communication Sciences. She is combining her last year with the grant from the Agencia EFE news agency company and “la Caixa” Foundation, as a Society editor. What she likes the most is travelling and getting to know realities different from her own. She believes that now she is really becoming a journalist because she is rapidly learning the trade. Thanks to the grant, her dreams will come true when next year, she will work as a correspondent at one of the EFE offices.

Mariano Fazio: “The university’s task is be open to the great truth and to constantly rediscover it”
The axillary vicar of Opus Dei, Mariano Fazio, visited the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, where he gave a speech titled: “Freedom, Truth and University.” Priest, historian, philosopher, and university professor, he spoke to more than four hundred people in the University’s Aula Magna. Fazio also had the opportunity to visit the two UIC Barcelona campuses

Once again, the Maria Pou Foundation, supported by Lunet Facility Services, has renewed the grant that available to students at risk of social exclusion so they can study any degree at UIC Barcelona. With this gesture, Lunet renews the cooperation agreement signed in 2017, and joins the annual UIC Barcelona #NoTallentWithouAFuture campaign to support talented students with economic needs
