Open Science Course for Catalan Universities

As part of UIC Barcelona’s commitment to promoting open science, the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research (VRIT), through the Doctoral School (EDOC) and in collaboration with the Consortium of University Services of Catalonia (CSUC), is offering the Open Science Course for Catalan universities to the entire research community.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the main pillars of open science and offers essential tools to facilitate the transition towards this new paradigm. It consists of five self-paced online modules and is permanently available, with enrolment open at all times.

The course is aimed at the following university groups:

Doctoral students
The Doctoral School offers the course as part of its transferable skills training programme. The activity is available in Catalan and English via the Moodle platform and requires prior registration through EDOC. Participants receive a certificate of completion, which can be recorded as a doctoral activity once the training is completed and the final test passed.

Teaching and research staff (PDI) and technical, management and administrative staff (PTGAS) supporting research
The course is also available to teaching and research staff (PDI) and technical, management and administrative staff (PTGAS) who support research activities. Registration is completed via a request form to EDOC. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate of achievement.

In addition to this cross-disciplinary training, VRIT and EDOC will provide information on complementary sessions and resources related to specific aspects of open science and its impact on research activity.

Alignment with the Open Access Publishing Support Programme

UIC Barcelona reinforces this commitment through its Open Access Publishing Support Programme, which recognises the importance of open access as a mechanism to promote the free and responsible circulation of scientific knowledge. This programme forms part of the UIC Strategic Plan 28 and aligns with the University’s Institutional Open Access Policy, fostering transparent and sustainable publishing practices that enhance the visibility and impact of research. Integrating the open science course within this strategy strengthens coherent and coordinated training for the entire research community.
