A total of 77 Spanish universities (48 of which are public, and 29 are private) have participated in this 8th edition of the CYD Ranking.

The CYD Ranking has a multidimensional focus and offers indicators that measure and compare universities’ performance in their different activity areas by analysing a total of 37 institutional indicators classified by performance groups (high, intermediate and low), which are grouped into six dimensions: Teaching and Learning; Research; Knowledge Transfer; International Outlook; Contribution to Regional Development and Employability (the latter in the field ranking).

The CYD Ranking makes it possible to measure and compare universities’ performance on two levels:

Institutional
Offers an overall analysis of the University.

Field of knowledge
Offers an analysis of all bachelor's and master’s degrees, which due to their level of homogeneity constitute a particular thematic area. For this edition, UIC Barcelona has participated in the field of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Psychology.

Although it doesn’t provide a unique position for each university, the CYD Ranking ranks universities according to the number of indicators that have obtained a high, intermediate or low performance.

Institutional level, UIC Barcelona ranks 12th out of 77 Spanish universities and once again stands out in the dimension of "Contribution to Regional Development".

The U-Ranking of Spanish Universities (Synthetic Indicators of Spanish Universities) is a joint initiative of the BBVA Foundation and the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE). In the 9th edition 2021, a total of 72 universities, 48 publics and 24 private, are analyzed, covering 98% of the Spanish University System in terms of number of undergraduate students and analyzing more than 3,300 degrees and double degrees.

The results are presented in two formats:

  • U-Ranking Volume, which ranks universities based on their total volume of results- teaching and research and innovation of Spanish universities- and, therefore, the size of the university plays a role in it along with the performance of each institution.
  • U-Ranking, which ranks universities based on performance- teaching and research and innovation- by size of the institution to make them comparable.

The two dimensions analysed by this ranking are: teaching, research and innovation.

The Universitat Internacional de Catalunya is also collaborating with the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU Catalunya) in carrying out an employment survey to obtain reliable data and evidence on the employability of graduates of higher education programmes (bachelor's and master's degrees), which will enable us to take decisions that help improve teaching.

AQU Catalunya has conducted the employment survey of the entire Catalan university system every three years since 2001, and in its twenty years of existence it has already accumulated more than 100,000 records, with a response rate of approximately 50%. These data confirm the validity of the survey, the reliability of the data and consolidate the survey as one of the most representative, comprehensive and important surveys in Europe. The population surveyed are graduates who completed their studies three years ago, which provides an accurate picture of their progression and integration into the labour market, providing information on the timescale, quality and pathway they have followed, as well as their degree of satisfaction with the education they have received.

UIC Barcelona has participated in this study since 2014, given that the results and conclusions drawn from the survey are considered representative. At the same time, the fact of being able to obtain comparative data with the rest of the universities in Catalonia is highly valued.

The most up-to-date data are those corresponding to the 7th edition of the survey, carried out in early 2020 and completed by graduates who finished their studies in the 2015-2016 academic year.

More than 35,000 people were surveyed in this latest study: 17,500 bachelor's degree and higher artistic education graduates, 12,000 master's degree graduates and 2,500 doctoral degree graduates, figures that represent half of the reference population (bachelor's degree graduates between 2015 and 2016, except for medicine graduates from the 2012-2013 graduating cohort, and higher artistic education, master's degree and doctoral degree graduates from the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 academic years).

The general results of all studies carried out by AQU Catalunya can be viewed via this link.
