The CyD Ranking, with a multidimensional approach, provides indicators to measure and compare universities’ performance in their different areas of activity through the analysis of indicators —38 at the institutional level— classified by performance groups (high, medium, and low) and grouped into six dimensions: Teaching and Learning; Research; Knowledge Transfer; International Orientation; Regional Development Contribution; and Employment Outcomes (the latter in the Field Ranking).

The CyD Ranking allows the measurement and comparison of university performance in two categories:

    Institutional category.
Provides an analysis of the university as a whole.

    Field of knowledge category.
Provides an analysis of the set of undergraduate and master’s degrees that, due to their degree of homogeneity, make up a specific thematic field. In this edition, UIC Barcelona participated in the Architecture field.

Although the CyD Ranking does not assign a single position to each university, it ranks them according to the number of indicators with high, medium, and low performance.

This ranking, which is part of the CYD Ranking 2025, comprehensively analyzes the performance of Spanish universities in terms of sustainability and social responsibility for the first time.

UIC Barcelona's results in the CYD Sustainable Universities ranking are generally average

UIC Barcelona achieves average performance in several indicators in the social commitment dimension, which evaluates aspects such as inclusion, diversity, equality, and university well-being, and stands out, with high performance, in the "Female Research Talent" indicator.

In the environmental dimension, UIC Barcelona presents average and high performance in most of the indicators that focus on energy efficiency, sustainable water management, and technological innovation for sustainability.

    Ranking Methodology and Relevance

The CYD Ranking of Sustainable Universities evaluates institutions' performance across 16 indicators:

    • 10 related to social commitment (equality, health, disability, social action).
    • 6 linked to environmental commitment (energy, water, waste, sustainable innovation).

The results are classified into three performance levels (high, intermediate, and low) based on the percentile obtained in each indicator.

The U-Ranking of Spanish universities (synthetic indicators of the Spanish university system) is a joint project of the BBVA Foundation and the IVIE (Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Económicas). At the 13th edition 2025 a total of 72 universities are analyzed, 48 public and 24 private, covering 96% of the Spanish University System in terms of number of undergraduate students. The results are presented in two different formats:

    • The U-Ranking, which classifies universities according to their performance - teaching and research, innovation and employability rate- according to the size of the institution in order to make them comparable.
    • The U-Ranking Volum, which classifies universities according to the total volume of results-teaching and research and innovation of Spanish universities-and, therefore, the size of the university plays a role in it along with the performance of each institution.

The three dimensions analyzed in this ranking are: teaching and research, innovation and employability rate.

  • Forbes List: The 20 best universities 2025

The Universitat Internacional de Catalunya joins the Forbes list: Best Universities 2025, according to the Spanish edition of Forbes magazine.

In this edition, 89 universities registered by the Integrated University Information System (SIIU) of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport were included, of which only 20 have stood out on this list.

This list evaluates the academic content of the courses, diversity, the balance between research and preparation of students for working life, career opportunities, prestige perceived by students, networking and internationalisation.

The evaluation criteria for this ranking have been analysed by an international committee of experts in higher education.

The criteria are divided into 5 blocks: Price and accessibility (10%); student experience (30%); preparation for working life (30%); quality of research and teaching staff (15%) and international perspective (15%).

Forbes based the analysis of the Forbes list: The 20 best universities 2025 on data from the Barometer of University Employability and Employment, from the Observatory of University Employability and Employment, statistics and indicators from the SIIU, as well as the data collected by the universities themselves through a survey with more than 50 questions.

The Universitat Internacional de Catalunya is also collaborating with the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU Catalunya) in carrying out an employment survey to obtain reliable data and evidence on the employability of graduates of higher education programmes (bachelor's, master's degrees and doctorates), which will enable us to take decisions that help improve teaching.

AQU Catalunya has conducted the employment survey of the entire Catalan university system every three years since 2001, and in its twenty years of existence it has already accumulated more than 100,000 records, with a response rate of approximately 50%. These data confirm the validity of the survey, the reliability of the data and consolidate the survey as one of the most representative, comprehensive and important surveys in Europe. The population surveyed are graduates who completed their studies at least three years ago, which provides an accurate picture of their progression and integration into the labour market, providing information on the timescale, quality and pathway they have followed, as well as their degree of satisfaction with the education they have received.

UIC Barcelona has participated in this study since 2014, given that the results and conclusions drawn from the survey are considered representative. At the same time, the fact of being able to obtain comparative data with the rest of the universities in Catalonia is highly valued.

The most up-to-date data are those corresponding to the 8th edition of the survey. The fieldwork was carried out between November and December 2022 in the electronic phase and between January and May 2023 in the telephone phase.

Almost 41.000 people were surveyed in this latest study: almost 23.000 bachelor's degree and higher artistic education graduates, more than 15,000 master's degree graduates and almost 2,500 doctoral degree graduates, figures that represent half of the reference population (bachelor's degree graduates between 2018 and 2019, except for medicine graduates from the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 graduating cohort, and higher artistic education, master's degree and doctoral degree graduates from the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academic years). In the case of Degrees, only the 2017-2018 promotion was considered if the population of this promotion was equal to or greater than 65 graduates.

The general results of all studies carried out by AQU Catalunya can be viewed via this link.
