Grants offered by UIC Barcelona

UIC Barcelona is committed to ensuring that nobody with a true aptitude and zest for learning should have to drop out of a degree for financial reasons. Student Services offers information and personalised assistance so that students can access these grants and financial aid.

Grants for new undergraduate students   

1. Grants for Academic Excellence (BEA)

For new students, except for medical degrees

This grant covers from 20% to 80% of the tuition fees for the entire degree programme. In this way, the cost is similar to tuition fees at public universities.

Financial requirements

The criterion of academic excellence is a priority for awarding the grant, although, since the funds available are limited, family income is taken into account to determine the allocation of the grant if there are candidates with the same level of excellence.

The family unit must pay taxes in Spain or Andorra.

Academic requirements

  • Baccalaureate students: have at least an 8 average in the first year of baccalaureate.
  • Students on vocational training courses: have at least a 9 average in the first year of the programme. 
  • Pass the UIC Barcelona specific test for the grant and the personal interview
  • Pass the official university entrance exam 
  • Enrol for a minimum of 60 credits per year
  • Consult the specific requirements for the dentistry degree here.

How do I apply for the grant?

You must fill in the official online form and submit the documentation required by the personal admissions portal.

Renewal

  • For dentistry students, consult requirements here.
  • For architecture students, consult requirements here.
  • For all other degrees: in order to renew the grant with the same initial conditions, students must pass all subjects and have an average mark of 7. Students who pass all subjects with an average of less than 7 may renew the grant with a lower percentage. 
  • If the student recovers the average established for the renewal of the grant, he/she will again have the initial percentage of the grant.

2. Nemesio Díez Foundation Grants for Academic Excellence in Medicine (BEA)

New Students who have completed their secondary school studies with an average mark of distinction

UIC Barcelona and Nemesio Díez Foundation have promoted the Nemesio Díez Foundation Grants for Academic Excellence (BEA), to encourage students with a strong vocation for medicine and an excellent academic record in Medicine at our university.

The grant covering 100% of the enrolment of the first year of the Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and up to 80% of enrolment from the second year on.

The students who receive the Nemesio Díez Foundation Grant are committed to participate in the activities that the Nemesio Diez Foundation designs especially for all students who receive support from the foundation. They are obliged to participate in an annual event, and in at least two volunteer activities a year.

Academic requirements

  • Have obtained an average mark of distinction in their Baccalaureate or secondary school equivalent
  • Enrol in a minimum of 60 ECTS per academic year.

Economic requirements

Academic excellence is a priority for the award of this grant. However, since available funds are limited, the per capita income of the family unit will also be valued to determine the allocation.

To be able to access this grant, the family unit must be registered as a taxpayer in Spain or Andorra.

How do I apply for the grant?

The application for the grant is through the official online form

Documentation

  • Initial letter of motivation. 
  • Record in which the average mark of distinction in their Baccalaureate is noted.
  • Income tax statement of all members of the household.
  • Letter of commitment to the activities established by the Nemesio Díez Foundation.

Renewal

  • To renew the grant with the same initial conditions, the student must have passed all enrolled credits with an average mark of 8.5. 
  • Students who pass all subjects with an average mark of less than 8.5 are eligible for a reduced percentage of the grant. The approval shall be made by the Grants Commission at the request of the Faculty Board. 
  • The original percentage will be restored should the student recover the average mark required for grant renewal.

3. International Excellence Grants

For international students who will study the entire degree programme at UIC Barcelona

UIC Barcelona has a clear international vocation and prepares students from a vision that is transformative, open to change, multicultural and inclusive. This grant aims to attract international talent, in line with the University's mission of national and international academic excellence.

The grant covers up to 20% of the tuition fees for all programmes and can be applied for all UIC Barcelona degrees, except for dentistry and medicine.

There are no financial requirements

Academic requirements

The following are required to apply, but do not guarantee the awarding of the grant:

  • An average mark of 8 in the academic year equivalent to first year of baccalaureate. UIC Barcelona will convert the marks to the Spanish system.
  • You must have passed the specific entrance exam for the programme's studies.

How do I apply for the grant?  

You must fill in the official online form and submit the documentation requested by the personal admissions portal.

Documentation required

Academic certificate for the academic year equivalent to first year of baccalaureate.

Calendar

Three exam sittings are scheduled, in November, January and April. 

Renewal

For renewal it is essential to pass all subjects.

4. Grants for the best research project in the baccalaureate

For new students from baccalaureate

Submit your project to the pre-university competition and you could win a grant covering 100% of your first year.

As this is a one-off award, this grant cannot be renewed.

5. Excellence Grants

For baccalaureate students with the best results in the university entrance exams

Free tuition for first year of any UIC Barcelona degree programme.

Financial requirements

There are no financial requirements. 

Academic requirements

  • Be among the top 500 students in the results of the University Entrance Exam (PAU in Catalan) of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, or among the top 100 students in the results of the Baccalaureate Assessment for University Entrance (EBAU in Spanish) of the other autonomous communities and/or;
  • Have obtained an extraordinary baccalaureate award.

How can the grant be obtained?

  • Students must have been previously admitted to UIC Barcelona.
  • Fulfilling the requirements to apply for the free grant does not imply direct admission or any right of preference in the university admission process. 
  • UIC Barcelona will select (among the students who have obtained the best results on the PAU/EBAU) from one to five candidates per degree and it reserves the right to not award the grants.
  • At the time of enrolment, the grant must be applied for, submitting the documentation.

Renewal

There will be no renewal of the grant, but the percentage of financial aid will be applied to as many enrolled credits as the number of credits with honours obtained in the previous year.

6. Baccalaureate Honours Grant

For newly admitted baccalaureate students

First year completely free for any UIC Barcelona degree programme.

Financial requirements

There are no financial requirements. 

Academic requirements

You must have completed the baccalaureate with an average mark of first honours.

How do I apply for the grant?

By submitting your academic transcript.

Renewal

There will be no renewal of the grant, but the percentage of financial aid will be applied to as many enrolled credits as the number of credits with honours obtained in the previous year.

7. Sport Talent Grant

For high-level or elite athletes

Through the Sport Talent programme, for high-level or elite athletes, UIC Barcelona helps these students to combine their academic life with competitive sport and wants to contribute to their all-round education. The University rewards their academic performance with 10 grants of € 2,000 each, financing part of their tuition fees.

Financial requirements

There are no financial requirements. 

Academic requirements

  • Students in year two of baccalaureate: pass all subjects and have a minimum average mark of 7. 
  • Advanced vocational training students (CFGS): pass all subjects and have a minimum mark of 8. 
  • Enrol for a minimum of 60 credits.
  • If a lower number of credits are enrolled, the amount must be adjusted to the number of credits enrolled.

Sports requirements

Students must meet the sporting requirements established by the Sport Talent Programme, from which the number and degree of criteria fulfilled will be assessed.

How do I apply for the grant?

Filling in the official online form and documentation to the admissions person in charge of each degree.

Documentation

New students, together with the documentation required for the admission process, must submit the personal statement and the certificate accrediting their status as high-level athletes, in accordance with the requirements established in the Sport Talent Programme.

Renewal

The transcript for the academic year completed and proof of sporting merits must be presented to Student Services.

To renew the grant with the same initial conditions, it is essential to have passed all subjects and to have a minimum average mark of 6.5. 

If all the subjects are passed without an average mark of 6.5, the grant will be reduced by 50%.

As long as the student recovers the average established for renewing the grant, the initial discount will be reinstated.

Grants for master's degrees and postgraduate programmes 

8. Grant for Academic Excellence (BEA) for master's degrees

For national and international students with a bachelor's degree

Each grant is equivalent to 20% of the total cost of the master's degree chosen by the student, except for master's degrees in dentistry. This program is open for the following master's degrees.

Requirements

  • Hold a university bachelor's degree.
  • Candidates will be assessed on their academic excellence in each of the master's degrees, and the UIC Barcelona Grants Committee will make a decision based on an objective and competitive ranking.

How do I apply for the grant?

  • Access the UIC Barcelona online admissions portal and fill in the master's degree admission application form. 
  • Submit the requested documentation. 

Documentation

  • Valid Spanish ID or passport. 
  • LOPD (Spanish data protection law) document signed on all pages. 
  • Signed document of general conditions for admission.
  • Academic transcript of the university degree completed. 
  • Transcript for the degree. 
  • Curriculum vitae (CV). 
  • Personal statement for admission to the master's degree. 
  • Any other specific document required to apply for the master's degree. If you have letters of recommendation, you have the option of attaching them. Letters of recommendation are not compulsory but are highly valued. 

In some cases, an interview and/or the completion of specific tests may be requested.

9. Grants for Academic Excellence (BEA) for the Master's Degree in Law and Public Prosecution (MUAP).

For students who have received a BEA grant and have completed their law degree at UIC Barcelona

A total of four grants will be awarded for 50% of the full tuition fees for the programme.

This grant is incompatible with any other financial aid or discount.

10. Grant for the best undergraduate academic record

For students who have completed a bachelor's degree at UIC Barcelona

One grant will be awarded per year and degree, equivalent to 20% of the cost of the master's or postgraduate degree at UIC Barcelona, with the exception of master's degrees in dentistry.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree from UIC Barcelona. 
  • You must be studying a master's degree or postgraduate programme at UIC Barcelona during the academic year immediately following the year in which you complete your degree.
  • Have obtained the best academic record for the degree studied at UIC Barcelona.

How do I apply for the grant?

  • The Board of each Faculty/Centre/Department proposes the candidates with the five best undergraduate records to the Grants and Financial Aid Service.
  • The Grants and Financial Aid Committee approves the candidates from each of the degree programmes to which the grant will be awarded. 
  • The grant is applied to the enrolment fee for the master's degree or postgraduate programme in the following academic year.

Scholarships for UIC Barcelona students

11. UIC Barcelona Grant

Aimed at students from all degree programmes with financial needs 

This grant aims to ensure that no student with an aptitude for studying at UIC Barcelona has to stop studying a degree for financial reasons. 

General requirements

  • Students opting for a bachelor's degree who are under 30 years of age
  • You must also apply for the Ministry of Education Grant. In Catalonia this can be done through AGAUR, and students from the Basque Country have their own call for applications. 
  • Pay the enrolment fee for the academic year for which the grant is requested within the established timeline and regardless of having applied for the grant. If the grant decision is subsequently favourable, the amount of the aid granted will be refunded.

Financial requirements

  • Family income and assets, such as capital gains and real estate, are taken into account.
  • The grant is incompatible with any other aid of more than 50 % of the tuition fees.

Academic requirements

  • First-year students: obtain at least 5 points on the university entrance exam (general phase of the PAU/EBAU), on the mark for the Advanced Vocational Training Course (CFGS) or another entrance exam. 
  • Students in subsequent years, and those who wish to renew their grant: pass all the credits enrolled in the previous year, with a maximum of two subjects passed in the second exam sitting for four-year degrees and three for degrees of more than four years. Absence from sitting the exam sessions is equivalent to a fail.
  • Students who already have a bachelor's degree, a degree in architecture or technical architecture or any degree for higher studies are not eligible to apply.

How do I apply for the grant?

  • Students who are already studying for a degree: you must fill in the application form on the intranet and submit the required documentation to Student Services.
  • New students: you must fill in the first year grant application form on the grants website, and submit it to Student Services at your campus together with the required documentation.

Documentation

It is not enough to fill in the grant application form, the required documentation must also be submitted to Student Services.

The Grants Office analyses the applications and submits them to the Grants and Financial Aid Committee for approval. 

Calendar 2024

  • Students already studying for a degree: 1 April to 26 July
  • New students or students transferring their transcripts: 1 April to 15 October

Renewal

  • The grant must be renewed each academic year.
  • The financial requirements must be met each year.
  • The application form must be completed, and the updated documentation must be submitted to Student Services.
  • Pass all the credits enrolled in the previous academic year, with a maximum of two subjects passed in the second session for four-year degrees and a maximum of three for degrees of more than four years. Absence from sitting the exam sessions is equivalent to a fail.

12. UIC - Banco Santander Grant

Aimed at students from all degree programmes with financial needs

UIC Barcelona has signed an agreement with Banco Santander to offer financial aid to students from the University who find themselves in an unfavourable economic situation.

Thirty grants are offered for an amount of € 1,000 each.

Requirements

  • Apply for or study an undergraduate degree.
  • Be under 30 years of age.
  • First-year students: obtain at least 5 points on the university entrance exam (PAU general phase), on the mark for the Advanced Vocational Training module (CFGS) or another entrance exam.
  • Students from other academic years and renewals: must have passed all the credits enrolled in the previous year. Absence from sitting the exam sessions is equivalent to a fail.
  • Students who already have a bachelor's degree, or degree in architecture or technical architecture or any of those corresponding to higher studies cannot apply for the grant.

How do I apply for the grant?

The grant is applied for through the Banco Santander Grants platform. The UIC Barcelona Grants and Financial Aid Committee analyses and approves the applications submitted.

13. Maria Teresa Rodó Foundation Grant

For students in all degrees with financial need and a good academic record

Grant endowed by the Maria Teresa Rodó Foundation.

A grant to study the entire university programme for any degree at UIC Barcelona.

The endowment includes €10,000 for the enrolment the tuition fees for each academic year, with intensive and personalised monitoring of studies to guarantee that they are wholly taken advantage of and have maximum guarantees of completion.

Financial requirements

  • Come from an economically disadvantaged social-family background.
  • Come from a family background where the world of higher education is culturally foreign.

Academic requirements

  • New students: to have passed the university entrance preparation year with at least a mark of 7.
  • Students already enrolled in an undergraduate degree: have passed all academic credits and have an average mark of at least 7 in the previous year. 

How do I apply for the grant?

The application is submitted online and the Grants Office reviews and assesses whether the student meets the requirements. The Grants and Financial Aid Committee and the Governing Board select the winning applications.

Documentation

  • Proof of having applied for the grant from the Ministry of Education.
  • Personal statement, explaining the reasons for applying for the grant and all the documents indicated in the application.

Renewal

  • It is essential to have passed all the credits enrolled in the previous academic year. Absence from sitting the exam sessions is equivalent to a fail. 
  • There must be certification that the student has had regular meetings with his/her advisor at least three times during the academic year completed.

14. Maria Pou-Lunet Foundation Grant

For students of all degrees with financial need and a good academic record

Grant endowed by Lunet Facility Services. 

Awarding of a grant to study the entire university programme for any degree at UIC Barcelona, in order to facilitate that students with difficulties can complete their university studies.

Financial requirements

  • Come from an economically disadvantaged social-family background.
  • Come from a family background where the world of higher education is culturally foreign.

Academic requirements

  • New students: to have passed the university entrance preparation year with at least a mark of 7.
  • Students already enrolled in an undergraduate degree: have passed all academic credits and have earned an average mark of at least 7 in the previous year. 

How do I apply for the grant?

The application is submitted online and the Grants Office reviews and assesses whether the student meets the requirements. The Grants and Financial Aid Committee and the Governing Board select the winning applications.

15. Damm Foundation Grant

For students in all degrees with financial need and a good academic record

Grant endowed by the Damm Foundation.

Awarding of three grants worth €3,000 each to promote training and equal opportunities.

Requirements

  • New students: to have passed the university entrance preparation year with a minimum mark of 7. 
  • Students from other academic years and renewals: to have passed all the subjects of the previous year with an average mark of at least 7 (6.5 for architecture). 

How do I apply for the grant?

The application is submitted online and the Grants Office reviews and assesses whether the student meets the requirements. The Grants and Financial Aid Committee decides on the applications to award.

Documentation

The application must be accompanied by a personal statement, explaining the reasons for applying for the grant and all the documents indicated.

16. Medical Academic Excellence Grants (BEA)

For students in years 2 to 5 of the medical degree programme 

Grant of 25% of the tuition fee for students in years 2 to 5.

Financial requirements

There is no financial requirement. 

Academic requirements

  • Be a current UIC Barcelona student in years 2 to 5. 
  • Be among the top 12 students in the class, with an average mark of 8.5 or above.
  • Enrol for a minimum of 60 credits. 

How are the grants awarded?

  • The Faculty Board proposes the candidates to the Grants and Financial Aid Committee, which decides who the candidates will be.
  • Students will be notified of the decision during the first fortnight of July. 
  • The grant will be applied to the registration fee for the following academic year.

Renewal

You must pass all enrolled credits and have an average mark of 8.5.

17. Josep Torrella Grant

For current students in years 4 and 5 of the architecture degree programme

Grant endowed by Torrella Engineering.

The grant promotes training in industrial architecture, covers part of the student's tuition fees, with an economic endowment of € 3,000, thus helping students achieve academic excellence and have their needs met.

It includes the development of paid extracurricular internships at Torrella Ingeniería for four weeks, with the possibility of being hired after completing their studies.

Requirements

  • Have an average mark of 6.5 or higher in the previous year. 
  • Knowledge of computer tools such as CAD, Revit, etc., commonly used in the daily work at Torrella.

Renewal

If the student is in year 4, it is an essential condition that he/she commits to doing an internship during the summer and that he/she has passed all the credits enrolled in the previous year, also with an average of 6.5.

18. Dr Joaquín Barraquer Moner Grant

For current students in years 2 and 3 of the medical degree

Grant endowed by the Barraquer Foundation.

The grant is aimed at fostering talent and promoting equal opportunities among medical students, combining the requirements of academic excellence and the student's need for financial aid. Two grants of € 3,500 each are awarded, covering part of the annual tuition fees of the beneficiary students.

Requirements

To have passed all the credits enrolled in the previous academic year with an average mark of at least 7 and commit to taking the optional subject of Practical Ophthalmology at the Barraquer Ophthalmology Clinic.

How do I apply for the grant?

Along with the grant application, students must attach a personal letter reflecting their interest in and/or knowledge of ophthalmology, and the motivation that has led them to study medicine and want to practice as a doctor.

Renewal

Pass all the credits enrolled in the previous academic year with a minimum average mark of 7.

19. My Alex Foundation Grant

For students in years 3 and 4 of the nursing degree

Grant endowed by Mi Fundació Alex, a corporate foundation promoted by the Clíniques Mi healthcare group.

Awarding of three grants worth € 3,750, aimed at nursing students with an excellent academic record, with limited financial resources who are committed to society.

The grant holders will have the opportunity to join Clíniques Mi, once they have completed their studies.

Requirements

  • Students in years 3 and 4 of the nursing degree. 
  • To have passed all the credits enrolled in the previous academic year and have a minimum average mark of 7.
  • Have financial difficulties.
  • The student agrees to undertake a four-week extracurricular internship that will be supervised by the UIC Barcelona Nursing Department in conjunction with the Mi Clinics. 

How do I apply for the grant?

  • You must submit the grant application online.
  • Must present the family income for the year in question.
  • Personal statement reflecting the student's interest and motivation that led him/her to study nursing and to participate in the internships (curricular or extracurricular) offered by the Mi Clinics.

Renewal

Pass all the credits enrolled in the previous academic year and have a minimum average mark of 7.

20. University Honours Grant

For undergraduate students from year two onwards at UIC Barcelona

UIC Barcelona wants to recognise students who obtain honours in their degree subjects, with the aim of rewarding effort and academic excellence.

The amount of the grant is equivalent to the number of credits of the subject in which the honours mark was obtained. This amount is deducted from the enrolment fee for the following year.

21. Special grant for students with disabilities

For students with a degree of disability greater than or equal to 33%

Grant of 50% of the tuition fees for a full year of undergraduate, postgraduate, master's or doctoral studies at UIC Barcelona (two exam sittings per subject). It is incompatible with other UIC Barcelona grants or financial aid.

Documentation

The disability must be certified by the corresponding public body in Spain.
