Introduction

Economic journalism is an area of specialization information that is establishing itself as one of the current main areas of the media. People is more and more conscious of the importance of understanding how economic news affect them and how to be informed can help them in their decision making processes.

Learning outcomes of the subject

At the end of this subject, students will be able to:

1- Know the resources and dynamics from different areas of journalistic expertise.

2- Perform tasks in corporate communication agencies related with that area of expertise.

3- Analyze and understand the main keys of those sectors related to the journalistic specialization offered in the module.

4- Adapt the attitudes and the skills of journalistic work to develop products or projects identified by a particular area of specialization.


Syllabus

1- Introduction to the subject. Origins and brief History.
2- The main sources of economic information. Agenda and experience. Analysis of media sources.

3- Working in the economy section of a generalist newspaper (interview with an editor). Changes and future challenges

4- The main variables of macroeconomics and translating them into economic news. Examples 

5- The company at the XXI century. New models emerged after the crisis, new trends in collaboration, entrepreneurs. From the global to the local. Report from an interview with a young CEO

6- New forms of corporate finance. From 3F to rounds of financing, crowfunding and crowlending, family office, Business angels and the stock market ... companies that fail: the bankruptcy

7- Economic sector: trade fairs. A report "in situ". Analysis.

8- State funding: the great economic agent.

TRAINING ACTIVITYECTS CREDITS
Lectures. In lectures, lecturers/professors not only transmit content or knowledge, but also, and above all else, attitudes, motivation, skills and values, etc. They also ensure that participants can express their opinions and arguments to the other students.

Meeting Point. Meetings will be organised with notable people from the professional and scientific fields or the international field, and students. These sessions will take the form of conferences, work sessions, discussions, or interviews, etc.

Focused Praxis. Handing in occasional exercises to learn theory through practice.

Coaching. Monitoring how students learn the content of the subject, either individually or in groups. In the coaching sessions, mistakes will be corrected, queries answered, and exercises and activities to achieve the established objectives will be suggested.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person



Continuous assessment through practical exercises and final exam. 

Students need to pass both parts of the subject for approval.

Keep in mind, however, that some exercises are related to a specific classroom activity, so they can not be repeated in second call. For this reason, it is very important to attend all sessions.
