Experiencia profesional

Dr. Miguel Angel Mateos Timoneda is Assistant Professor at Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), and carries his research at the Bioengineering Institute of Technology (BIT).

He studied Chemistry at the University of Salamanca (1994-1999). During this time, he did an intership of 3 months in the metallugical company SIDENOR (Reinosa, Cantabria) working in the quality control lab. Afterwad, in 2000, he obtained grado de Salamanca (Sobresaliente Cum Laude) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Francisco Bermejo in the sterocontrolled synthesis of natural products with biological activity. Then, he moved to the University of Twente (Enschede, The Netherlands) to pursue his PhD under the supervision of Dra. Mercedes Crego-Calama and Prof. Dr. David N. Reinhoudt. In April 22nd 2005, he obtained his PhD title with the thesis entitled “Functional Chiral Hydrogen-Bonded Assemblies”. From the results of the Thesis, 7 articles were published in high impactjournals (2 Angewandte Chemie, 1 Journal of the American Society, and a highly cited review in Chemical Society Reviews). Then, from september 2005 to september 2007, he hold a postdoctoral fellowship in the groupo of Polymer Chemistry and Biomaterials (PBM) of Prof. Jan Feijen and Prof. Johan Enbersen in the University of Twente (Enschede, The Netherlands). He was in charge of the synthesis and physicochemical and biological characterizaton of biodegradable polymers for gene therapy. During this period, he gain more knowdlege in organic synthesis, mainly of biodegradable polymers. He also had the opportunity to guide several master students. From this period, 3 articles were published in first quartile journals (2 of them, even in the first decile). From October 2007 to September 2019, he was a Senior Researcher at Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) hired by CIBER-BBN (ISCIII). He was the responsible for the biofunctionalization of biodegradable polymers, the development of new methods for the synthesis of micro/nanoparticles for cell and drug delivery and the technical responsible of the rapid prototyping unit of ICTS Nanbiosis from the CIBER-BBN. He published 30 articles, 5 book chapters, 3 patent application and 8 conference proceedings. He has also been the director of 4 PhD Thesis and 3 more are underway and PI of several granted projects. He served as external reviewer of different funding bodies and is referee of many journals, such as Biofabrication, Biomaterials, Biomacromolecules and Lab on a Chip.
