Global Encounters: Mexico
Barcelona Campus
The Vice-Rectorate for International Relations is organising a new edition of Global Encounters, a series of conferences aimed at bringing international culture and knowledge to the UIC Barcelona community, with the goal of strengthening and promoting the international outlook on both campuses.
The event is open to all members of the university community, as well as external guests through the University’s official channels.
Programme:
- 10.00 – Welcome coffee
- 10.30 – Institutional greeting from the rector, Dr Alfonso Méndiz.
- 10.45 – Lecture: "México en Cataluña: Relaciones y oportunidades mutuas” (Mexico in Catalonia: Relationships and Mutual Opportunities), by Minister Alfonso Navarro Bernachi, acting consul of Mexico in Barcelona.
- 11.30 – Lecture: "Ciudad Talismán: Octavio Paz y Barcelona” (Talisman City: Octavio Paz and Barcelona), by Aurelio Major, poet, translator and editor. Presented by Dr Laura Gandolfi, dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
- 12.30 – Lecture: “Inteligencia Artificial: Actuales y nuevas profesiones” (Artificial Intelligence: Current and New Professions), by Dr Ulises Cortés, director of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research in the Department of Computer Science at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC).
- 13.30 – Performance by Mariachi Internacional Barcelona and a showcase of Mexican folk dance
- 14.00 – Lunch break
- 15.00 – Hands-on workshop on traditional Mexican crafts: flowers and papel picado
This Global Encounter provides a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insight into Mexico’s institutional, cultural and business landscape and promote intercultural dialogue within the university community.
