The progression through the G1 phase of the cell cycle is controlled by different cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) that might be associated with numerous cyclin isoforms. After the Human Genome Project, a number of new CDKs and cyclins were discovered. Structurally, these new proteins are different from canonical proteins and their physiological role is unknown.
Our work focuses on finding out what the role of these new cyclins is in cell-cycle control.
