For the third year running, the university has been included in Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects for Dentistry & Oral Sciences. UIC Barcelona has placed between 151st and 200th position out of 300 universities from around the world, whilst it placed between 3rd and 4th position out of seven Spanish universities.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU or Shanghai Ranking) is one of the world’s most renowned rankings.  The list is drawn up by a group of specialists from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China) with a view to measuring the quality of the world’s best universities.

The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2020 includes more than 4,000 higher education institutions ranked in order of excellence, as well as by 54 academic subjects divided into five disciplines: natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences.  The specialists have used five indicators: the number of articles published in journals, the percentage of citations, mentions in international journals, presence in prestigious journals and the number of award-winning researchers.

Just seven universities from Spain were included in the ranking in the subject category Dentistry and Oral Sciences, six of which are public and one, UIC Barcelona, which is private. The university has been ranked between 3rd and 4th position among national universities in this medical sciences category and has placed between 151st and 200th position among universities from around the world.
