UIC Barcelona will host the FINE international congress, focused on the challenges and opportunities of nursing education

Organised by the European Federation of Nursing Science Educators (FINE) in collaboration with the University’s Nursing Department, the meeting will offer a space where educators, clinicians and students can plan the future of nursing education in Europe from the perspective of sustainability

On March 21 and 22, Campus Sant Cugat will host the new edition of the FINE international congress: “Nursing Education for a Sustainable Future: Challenges and Opportunities”. Over two days, educators, students and clinicians from different countries of the European Union will meet to share their experiences and discuss the future of nursing education in Europe from the perspective of sustainability.

Over two days of the congress, participants will be able to attend different presentations given by international experts in the field of training future nursing professionals such as: Gemma Stacey, deputy director general of the Florence Nightingale Foundation (United Kingdom); Daniela Lehwaldt, lecturer at the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health at Dublin City University (Ireland); Maya Matthews, deputy director and head of the health sector in the EU unit (Belgium); Adela Zabalegui, deputy director of Nursing Research and Teaching at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona (Spain); and Maria Filomena Mendes, coordinator of the ESEL (Lisbon School of Nursing) and vice president of FINE. In these sessions, the topics will focus mainly on the actions of the European Union regarding health professionals, the future of nursing education, and the challenges and opportunities of the sector.

The congress will also feature a roundtable discussion on how to achieve sustainable nursing training now and in the future. Likewise, the attendees of the meeting will also be able to participate in the presentations of posters and papers about recent studies and research.

“For us, hosting this edition of the FINE congress is a great opportunity to publicise the great work that is being done by European universities to train nursing professionals from the perspective of nursing leadership and teaching innovation,” explained Encarna Rodríguez, who is director of the Nursing Department at UIC Barcelona.
