Introduction

Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is the area of dentistry that deals with the supervision, guidance and correction of growth and maturation of the craniofacial structures.

Major responsibilities of orthodontic practice include the diagnosis, prevention, interception and treatment of occlusion anomalies and associated changes in bone and soft tissue.

The orthodontist should monitor the guidance of the dentition and the relationship between their supporting structures to achieve and maintain harmonious relations between the face and cranial structures that allow the patient physiology and dento-facial aesthetics optimal.

The course "Management of clinical, management and ethics" imparts knowledge to manage an orthodontic office, properly communicate with patients and staff consultation, work ergonomically and know the law applicable to professional practice.

Training and quality control auxiliary personal

Financing and administration of an orthodontic practise

Laws and regulations that apply to an orthodontic practise

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

The student must be competent to implement a quality management system in an orthodontic practice

The student must be competent to communicate effectively with the patient, family and staff consultation.

The student must be competent to use effective communication tools and different presentation modes.

The student must be competent to work in an ergonomical optimal manner

Case method: Study and discussion of clinical cases

Lectures: Teach basic skills. Includes bibliographical references necessary for the study and expansion of the subject.

Seminars: They are an overview of the theoretical syllabus, with a much more practical side, allowing a more flexible student-teacher interaction.

Tutorials: Monitoring and individualized help of student progress.

Student work: Job search and research performed by the student under the supervision of teachers and autonomously.

Labs: Practical application of theoretical knowledge. Help acquire the ability and skill necessary for clinical application.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person



Physical presence in both, theoretical and practical sessions, is required.

The student must spend additional hours for study and preparation of meetings

The theoretical and practical program are continuously evaluated with written and oral exams.

The evaluation will take into consideration the following points:

- The theoretical knowledge

- The presentation of the work requested

- The student clinical practice

- Ergonomy

- Attitude and Behaviour
